(3,433 posts)At the time it was put into the original constitution, only land owners were allowed to vote because they didn't trust the masses. Which I think is part of the reason they had the electoral college. They also did not have the technology that we have today to tabulate so many votes. If we are going to trust the masses to vote, then we should do away with the electoral college and let the Presidential vote be more democratic.

(13,218 posts)It is an erroneous idea that states deserve a vote for president in a democracy. It is as pig-headed as is the concept that corporations are people. Make that Hell, yes!

(2,270 posts).... as one who thinks it has to go. Been saying this for a long time. Outmoded, anti-democratic, and anachronistic. I also truly believe we need to go back to paper ballots for elections. We need a physical trail for accountability. EVERYTHING does not have to dominated by the almighty dollar!

(6,699 posts)...it will NEVER happen with a repuKKKe congress and administration.
It is time to throw it in....PAST time; but we have to be realistic with our expectations.

(26,291 posts)supposedly meant to keep an fucking idiot out of office and instead of doing that they put him into office so ya I would say its time to do away with atleast the current version of the EC as its not doing its job.
That or stop the states from mandating how and who the EC have to vote for.

(2,065 posts)It's the only way they can win presidential elections any more - with the electoral college, and all the vote purging and voter suppression that they throw in with it. Just as modern technology enables us to count and tabulate votes much faster, it also enables us to steal votes as well. And that's something Alexander Hamilton never envisioned.

(1,907 posts)you also have to have buy in from all the states. States like Texas which is actually pretty close to a split on repub and democratic voters but controlled by repub's wouldn't go for it. Also getting the smaller states to give up that extra vote power would be a big problem.
