The only check against the President is Congress. As we have seen in our own recent history, Congress can ignore blatantly unlawful, illegal and unconstitutional acts by the President. They can also make totally innocuous actions by the President a case for impeachment & removal, when IRL those same actions by an average person would bring absolutely nothing in the way of legal ramifications.
