I am close to the Gulf coast Louisiana border and we got some of this rain and flooding. Our city spent a fortune on drainage control after Rita and Ike (both direct hits on us) and it has paid off. This was a 500 year flood event that is probably a 20 year event now.

We are playing with fire that we don't know how to control and what all it will do, yet we keep messing with it, changing nothing. We still allow Lobbyist to buy our politicans so they support the fossil fuel industry and hope they will seek alternative green energy! We do the same things expecting a different result.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
