The Real News - Media Propaganda and Engineered Consent

Excellent interview with Mark Crispen Miller (Mark Crispin Miller is professor of media studies at New York University) discussing how potent, prevalent, and artful media propaganda has become since the Bush administration. Definitely a must see.

1. ...how potent, prevalent, and artful media propaganda has become since the Bush administration?

I guess Mr Miller is unaware of Fox News and right wing talk radio. And he's a professor of media studies? Furthermore, his characterization of North Korea's attitude towards dissent as mere "impatience" is absurd.

2. That is overt which is far less powerful (believe it or not).

Propaganda persuasion is much more effective when it is couched and indirect. You are far more likely to be persuaded if you think your source is more or less factual and less biased.

That is why methods of affecting our mass media narratives are far more powerful than we think. We compare our media to sources that are more overt (more primitive in technique) and think we are free from it. When it is the exact opposite.

Did you watch the video?

3. I watched the video. I was underwhelmed by the argument.

Did you watch it? what did you think of his description of North Korea's attitude towards dissent as "impatient?" He exaggerates and bends the truth to make his point.

even the best presentation will be found to be with fault.

You seem pretty set on your take whenever we converse. Others can decide for themselves what they think.

I offer you a solid reason for my reaction and you ignore it?

going back and forth which is where this will go. Believe what you will. Others can watch and make their own minds up.

7. Your previous post expressed an interest in conversation. But instead of engaging in discussion

you have berated me for having made my mind made up. Posing a question should not an impediment to discussion, it is the start of a conversation. I'm sorry if questions make you uncomfortable, but it is a universally accepted way to find out the reasons another person has a certain opinion. If you don't care meet me halfway that is your right, but please don't blame me for your lack of interest.
