"Why Major Media Blows, Thank Reagan"

Last edited Wed May 11, 2016, 12:33 AM - Edit history (2)

"The Fairness Doctrine was a policy of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), introduced in 1949, that required the holders of broadcast licenses to both present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was, in the Commission's view, honest, equitable and balanced."

"Bring back the Fairness Doctrine."

The following video was added after reading this comment from the above video on YouTube-which I somewhat agree with.
"Sorry but this is complete bullshit. There was media equity long after the Fairness Doctrine was abolished. Who gave us the current media was BILL CLITON signing the TeleCom Act of 1996, which allowed for media consolidation into the hands of a few corporations . So yes.... today's media is a product of the neoliberal Cliton Administration."
"Sometimes the truth hurts.":

"President Bill Clinton signed the Telecommunications Act of 1996.
The act, signed into law on February 8, 1996, was "essentially bought and paid for by
corporate media lobbies," as Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR) described it,
and radically "opened the floodgates on mergers." “

“Wall Street's sinister influence on the political process has, rightly, been a major topic during this presidential campaign. But, history has taught us that the role that the media industry plays in Washington poses a comparable threat to our democracy. Yet, this is a topic rarely discussed by the dominant media, or on the campaign trail."

...we can thank The Fairness Doctrine for the fact that we no longer have cigarette commercials on TV. I'm not surprised rabid pro-business types wanted to get rid of it, as well as political propagandists.

I'm a registered Democrat of over forty years. People my age remember when the news was much different...Today the MSM can say anything they want to sway opinion to the highest bidder.
It is so obvious- like in the video.

Supporters line up for over four hours to see Senator Sanders..
Amazing pictures today on DU! No real MSM pictures..

I love how you can always find a video of Bernie on every issue..
Bernie when he was mayor of Burlington in 1987.

Bernie would be kicking some serious ass if we still had a fair media. That's why we don't.
