Last edited Sat Jun 9, 2012, 01:10 PM - Edit history (1)
In this episode, Max Keiser and co-host, Stacy Herbert, discuss 'wash trades,' debt crises and the speculation on JP Morgan's growing debt problem in London. In the second half of the show Max talks to Pierre Jovanovic of Jovanovic.com about JP Morgan 'firing' the Vatican, whether or not Jamie Dimon will last the year and what the future holds for French bonds.

(40,416 posts)Ynfortunately, with a generous sprinkling of dodgy stuff. It does make it interesting. They have fully embraced the new media, which is very good, a lot of Skype phone interviews. However, some of them are towards the speculative end.
But overall, RT is worth watching.
N. B., I only get RT on MHz Worldview from my local PBS channel. So, I only get their half hour newscasts.

(40,416 posts)If you have an argument, I would much appreciate it if you could present it in your response rather than merely posting a link to an off-DU site.
Thank you.

(17,621 posts)(But if you're BW-limited, how is it that watching videos is fine, but clicking links to text articles isn't? Well, whatever.)
It's a long article but here's an excerpt (the 4 paragraph limit is a real challenge. The article is worth reading in its entirety):
It's not just conspiracy theories about Sept. 11 that preoccupy Russia Today. The channel has also reported on the false notion that Obama was born outside the United States and therefore is ineligible for the presidency. The channel in March interviewed Dr. Orly Taitz, an émigré from the former Soviet republic of Moldova and a chief proponent of the "birther" movement who gained notoriety in August 2009 by unveiling Obama's supposed Kenyan birth certificate a document quickly exposed as a laughable forgery and also has made a whole raft of other completely unsupported claims. Though the host noted that major American media outlets have refuted birther claims, he did not state that Obama has made public his birth certificate, even when Taitz asserted that "Obama himself owed allegiance to three other nations." Taitz has made other appearances on Russia Today.

Longtime militia organizer Jim Stachowiak a controversial figure even in Patriot circles also is a regular guest on Russia Today. Earlier this year, the Georgia-based radio host appeared on the network to defend Charles Dyer, a prominent associate of the Patriot group Oath Keepers until Dyer was charged with child sex abuse in January. "We're standing by Dyer," said Stachowiak, who wore a "Don't Tread on Me" hat and referred to the ATF (the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) as the "American Terrorism Force."
Even white nationalist Jared Taylor has found a platform on Russia Today. On Feb. 8 of this year, when Taylor participated in a "CrossTalk" discussion of whether Obama is a post-racial president, host Lavelle introduced him as an author and editor of American Renaissance journal but made no mention of his blatantly racist views. (In 2005, for instance, Taylor wrote in his journal: "Blacks and whites are different. When blacks are left entirely to their own devices, Western civilization any kind of civilization disappears." Russia Today was also the only major media outlet to interview Taylor after multiple hotels cancelled his magazine's biannual conference in February. It did not seek comment from the activists behind the campaign to shut down the conference, which brings together prominent white supremacists and academic racists from the United States and abroad.
...
Yet Russia Today is clearly serving the interests of those who promote the ideas that animate the burgeoning Patriot movement. The channel gets rave reviews on Patriot websites, including Jones' Prison Planet Forum. "This is what mainstream news should be like," one forum poster declared on May 7 ironically overlooking that his ideal media outlet is heavily subsidized by and very likely beholden to a government. "Russia Today," he said, "gets many kudos from me."
Edit to add link - it's in the post above but in case it wasn't clear, I want people to go to the full article: http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-report/browse-all-issues/2010/fall/from-russia-with-love

(40,416 posts)I watch RT on broadcast PBS, MHz Worldview, on WGVU, Grand Rapids. As I said in my post, I only get their half hour news program.
What about that did you not understand that you thought I could view videos? I was commenting on RT, not on the video in the OP. I didn't even cite the video.

(18,998 posts)And it is A Jones on now...first time I have seen him...but It brought a question to mind if you want to answer it...
Would you describe yourself as a libertarian...or a libertarian democrat?
The problem with the idea of a third party advocating libertarian ideas will be little better that the Ds and Rs we have now...just a new leader with a new form of control and power..
And yet there is a solution that liberals and independents and libertarians and even some GOPers could stand for...a real genuine democracy where everyone participated in.
So it all boils down to one question...do you trust democracy or not...and if you do how could we make it happen?

(17,621 posts)This is excerpted from your post:
I clicked on that youtube link and it is indeed playing an Alex Jones bit now.
Edited to clarify, and add: you should probably edit your post. Alex Jones is a nasty bit of work.

(77,114 posts)The link must have been included in the synopsis under the video that I copied to describe what the video is about. I think Alex Jones is kind of a nut.

(17,621 posts)But the way your post initially appeared, it wasn't clear that the text I excerpted came from the video. I also thought you were pointing to your own youtube channel. But now that you explain it, it makes perfect sense.
I don't know if I'd consider RT a good source though. But that's another question.

(18,998 posts)I thought you just liked listening to what he said...actually I found it interesting but not in the way that was agreeable...more like instructive in the mind set of those kind of people.
There are democrats that like what Ron Paul says and I like some of it myself...like bringing the troops home and ending the Federal Reserve...but I an not fooled by it.

The Wielding Truth
(11,415 posts)of the European financial problems to be the factor that may cause our situation to worsen. It is bouncing around. I don't think that he is denying that fact that it was the US lose of regulation whose corruptive actions caused the major world crisis. Freeing the market is like letting a 3 year old play in the street. Tragedy will follow.

(32,324 posts)His "go to" man for economic advice is Tim Geithner. According to a major TV channel's portrayal of life in the WH when they toured the WH, Geithner works right down the hall from the Oval Office. Obama can stop by or call Tim in to the Oval Office any time he wants.
But just what type of explanations does Geithner give the President?
After all, if Tim totally educated the Big Guy, in a truthful manner, he would have to implicate himself as after all, it was he, Tim Geithner, that manipulated the way the Bailouts were handed over to Wall St's Biggest Players. (I know of no finer documented account of Geithenr's criminal activity while heading the NY Federal Reserve than the psots here by DU member Octafish. Google "Octafish" and AIG and "Octafish" and Goldman Sachs, to see how Bernanke and Geithner always helped those two firms out. This is in violation of RICO provisions!)
This activity of Tim's should have gotten him a cell down the hall from Madooff's. But luckily Tim has Obama working for him, believing his explanations, rather than Obama educating himself and getting the American economy free of people like Bernanke and Geithner.
And our economy will not improve until we get a President who acts in a much more savvy manner than Obama has done.
The Wielding Truth
(11,415 posts)Corporate business is the originator of this, rock the world, bad economy. I think that he is speaking of a second dive which would be been caused by the stupid austerity programs of the EU.This most certainly will be compounded by the ignorant actions of the corrupt lemming Tea-party.
I have to disagree that Obama is not the man for the job. He is not perfect but he is closer by miles than Romney, so we have to get behind him. Barack Obama is a model president. He has done the job that he said he would. He has tried to bring together the right and left. Too bad the Right has NOT put the welfare of our country first. They have been corralled by Corporate propaganda are closed to reality.

The week before that, Max and his guest were cheering on the Facebook founder who renounce his American Citizen ship to got out of paying taxes. Max Keiser has significant cognitive dissonance himself.
He has some good guests on some times. And his point about naked short selling and derivatives at right on. But I can't take him seriously when another 40% of the time he spouts Milton Friedman free market BS with a side of Ron Paul extra crazy sauce.
