State Representative Will Infantine Makes A Fool Out Of Himself Talking About Paycheck Fairness
Did you catch that? Basically he said that women earn less than men because they do not work as hard, do not work nights, do not work weekends, are not willing to work overtime. All of those are extras, they are not included in your salary. All except hard work. I guess Rep Infantine just believes that women do not work as hard as men, and that is why we only have to pay them 77 cents on the dollar.

Comments like these only serve to remind us of the outdated thinking that has allowed paycheck inequity to exist in the workplace for way too long. Women are not asking for anything more than an equal days pay for an equal days work. The New Hampshire Paycheck Fairness Act will give women the tools they need to challenge wage gaps and help create a climate where wage discrimination is no longer tolerated. These laws are needed to eliminate loopholes, increase transparency in wages, and ensure that all workers have the appropriate tools and resources to help them earn a fair and equal paycheck, without fear of retaliation.

(9,322 posts)Where women are paid less than men for the same job. I don't know where this is happening. I've always wondered if it's skewed statistics, like the CEO or the VP of Marketing at a Fortune 500 company(not many women) gets paid more than the CEO of a small company(more women), but they still consider that the same job for the purpose of comparing wages. I don't care if everyone hates this post!

There are a LOT of factors that go into that statistic, and (like it or not) women with children do make different choices than men--with or without children.
For one thing, more women than men are likely to take several years off from work in order to be at home with small children. During those years, the woman is missing out on merit raises, bonuses, etc. that will have an effect on average lifetime income. Also, when a woman returns to work following an absence of several years, she is not likely to be hired at the same salary as a man who has worked continuously. (For what it's worth, I think that's perfectly fair.)
Women may choose not to take frequent business trips, or to put in 12- or 14-hour days, which many professional men do.
These are legitimate life choices that women make. Not all value can be measured in dollars and cents.

(145,231 posts)This is essentially the same comment that was made a while back by two of Greg Abbott's spokespersons about the Texas equal pay law. One spokesperson for Abbott thinks that women are too busy to care about equal pay
A second Abbott spokesperson takes the position that men are better negotiators compared to women

(14,549 posts)The same Repub farmers who's friends complain about "illegal immigrants" hire them (illegally) for pennies on the dollar. Racism means they don't have to provide benefits or safe working conditions.
Plenty of conservative-owned white collar operations are staffed with the very people they support discriminating against.
