Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) speaks at a fundraiser for American Family Voices in New York City on Thurs., Jan. 23, 2014.
"So here's the deal- I am in a room full of Progressives. I am in a room full of tough people. I am in a room full of fighters. And what this tells me, is our time has come... for too long the conversation has been dominated by those with money, by those with power....
IT IS TIME... WE HAVE FOUND OUR VOICE AND WE ARE READY TO FIGHT BACK! OUR VOICES WILL BE HEARD!!!"

Can you imagine:
Warren: "I think it's time that the wealthiest Americans pay taxes at the same rate as the working poor - or maybe even a little more!"
Hillary: "Larry Summers, our next head of all financial stuff and a personal friend, says that would be a bad thing for the Job Creators!"
Point Hillary!

(27,787 posts)... post anything to the effect that Hillary would wipe the floor with Warren in a debate? I don't think I've seen anyone take that stance. Or anything close to it.
What is it that causes you to struggle to support Warren on her own merits, and instead attack other Democrats, as if by doing so, you've elevated Warren in some way?
I understand that here on DU, some folks love that stuff ... but that's probably not the way you'll get average Democrats who already like Hillary, to give Warren an objective look, as a realistic alternative to Hillary.
But hey, maybe I'm wrong.

(312 posts)I do not mean to start a war but Warren made some claims that she is a Native American decedent. This turned out to be a fantasy. I am of Native American blood, on the books and very proud of my heritage.
This lady greatly offended me and many other Native Americans. I do not trust anything she claims. I guess you may say I never know which fork of her tongue she is speaking from.
It seems others in here worship her but the Original Americans I know look at her with disgust.

(34,589 posts)Like most people who consider themselves to be Jewish, I have no evidence other than my parents telling me that I am.
Should I not say that I'm Jewish?
proudretiredvet
(312 posts)Warren simply said she was because it was a family tale. She made no effort to insure the validity of her claim to be the decedent of Native Americans before she used it to establish her minority status at a major teaching university. She used a unsubstantiated rumor to claim something she has no right to claim. Research quickly established that neither she, nor her ancestors, are on the books of any tribe.
Please do not try and white wash this insult to the Native American People. It happened and they loudly objected and were and still are insulted. They/we have a right to these feelings. Warren is responsible for the words she speaks and for the information she puts on official documents.
Would you stand up and tell a black person how they should feel about a black heritage issue?
Please give the original Americans the same respect.
blue14u
(575 posts)I'm sorry about the dispare about ur heritage. Maybe it was not intentional, and she too had information that made her think she qualified.
One thing I wish u would keep in mind, is that the "other" contender
Hillary Clinton has so much more intentional baggage left from :Venice Foster, Whitewater, her close connections to banks and wall street, not to mention Benghazi, and so much more. She has so much to attack, it would be endless.
I am already hearing from the GOP side, "WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE"!
I am already tired of it and we have 3 1/2 years left to fight all her battles. I prefer not to. Warren would b a Strong pic and she comes with a virtually clean slate. She champions for the People, not like Hillary who champions for corporations and Wall Street. I would like to see Warren as our candidate 2016 , hope I get my wish!!!! I also hope u are able to overlooked one mistake, even as large as it is and vote for the best candidate. Warren 2016..... thank u for ur kindness and time to read my post. Imho, it is what makes sense for America. Look at Warren again, u may see a whole new side of her, after u lay to the side her one mistake. I sure hope so....Have a beautiful day!

(18,998 posts)I don't believe that...unless what you say are average Democrats are third way Democrats.
But I will make a prediction...that if Hillary wins the nomination we will say hello to a GOP president in 17...and the third way Democrats will blame progressives for it.
And then the corporate masters can finish the job on us, and make this the country that they want to see.
Only someone new that speaks to the populace will fire up the base and win in 16...because Hillary is damaged goods, and the GOP already has lots of ammo against her in the ammo can ready to be used.

(27,787 posts)2) No Republican can beat Hillary.
3) The perpetually disgruntled left needs to get off its ass and create some real alternatives to Hillary or it will be spending 2016-2020, and perhaps beyond, whining about President Hillary.
Whining about Hillary before-hand is not an effective political strategy.
zeemike
(18,998 posts)But if you think the GOP won't savage Hillary and the media won't help them out you are mistaken.
And it will be independents that change sides, not Democrats...and the right wing will vote for the GOP no matter who they run.
The GOP will run someone new, and we will run someone old, and most people want something new not the old.

(54,621 posts)Hillary is only too aware of what will be tossed her way if she runs. Indeed, she has been so subjected to it all, she could probably cite every negative comment that will come by heart, and accurate predict from whom. Indeed, I suspect that, rather than her age, is probably one of the main reasons she hasn't announced already. Maryland Governor O'Malley is preparing the groundwork for a run, which, as an early Hillary supporter in the past, he would never do if Hillary had told him she was running.
As for new and old--it ain't necessarily so: 1980, anyone?
Swede Atlanta
(3,596 posts)A Republican can absolutely beat Hillary. Do not be lulled into a sense of predestination as it relates to her potential presidential run.
We don't know who that Republican is but trust me there is one out there (perhaps Jeb Bush although the U.S. is pretty tired of the Bush family) that with the right political team and all of the money that will pour in from the 1%, that could beat Hillary.
I'm not saying it won't be difficult but, assuming she does run, she has baggage in her closet that they will throw at her. They will fight dirty. They have learned from what Obama did in the past two election cycles in terms of the online strategy, etc.
I agree that those who don't want Hillary as their next presidential candidate need to start looking for viable alternatives. Warren is not interested and I think she, like her predecessor, Teddy Kennedy, can do more service to the nation in the Senate. Who would that alternative be? I don't know.

There are several women in Congress and a few in the Senate who have greatly betrayed progressive causes which benefit women, men, and their families, and have fought long and hard for. I no longer hold the assumption, that just because someone is a woman, is someone we should place faith in.

2banon
(7,321 posts)Women's right to choose, and our own choices with regard to our own bodies are extremely important. That's a struggle I thought we battled and WON decades ago, but apparently the struggle continues just like all other socio-economic equality and political issues.
My point is our struggle for reproductive rights is just ONE thing all Women should care about.
But the reality is not all women care about other socio-economic issues and issues of equality except whether it concerns them personally and their family's personal wealth.
Women of privilege, Old Money, the class who belong to the 1% . Who believe in Wars, and funding for arms engaging in the slaughter of innocent women and children through drone strikes or shock and awe invasions or other myriad of murderous operations.
Just to look "tougher" than the male opposition
We need a paradigm shift and women who are passionate in making that happen.
Not Women who want to maintain the status quo.
That's essentially my point.

On the other hand, the way candidates actually operate, it is possible Hillary will be repeating that statement (as if it were her actual position) in places like where I live, the SF Bay Area, just to garner progressive votes.. Also, she would have a hard time standing up to the MIC because of this (lack of FP bkgrd).

But for many Americans her lack of foreign policy bkgrd could be made

(5,610 posts)I have been burned too often by candidates that say what I want to hear. When they are elected it becomes obvious that they work for, or are a member of TPTB and could give a rats ass about we "common folk." When Senator Warren arrived on the political scene, an original Obama appointee, who was rejected by TPTB, I was skeptical even though Warren says what I think.
I have begun to trust her immensely while I still have a distrust of most politicians.
Senator Bernie Sanders has been the only one that I truly believe. He earned my trust by his progressive actions and hard work for the average and underprivileged Americans, consistently, over decades.
I have learned the hard way (as most of you have too) that words mean shit. Actions are the only things that count. While Senator Warren has only been in politics a comparatively short time. her actions have convinced me that she is on our side.
I hope that my decision never comes back to bite me, but she has made me start to trust that some politicians actually do care.
