(40,416 posts)Who is Real News Network? I like what I see and hear here. I want a link to the continuation of the interview.
Chris Hedges is an awesome person who has written so much and has a perspective that few can claim.
I want more of this. So please post a link to the continuation of this, if only for those rural DUers, like me, who will burn their monthly bandwidth allocation to view the rest of a profound, and what looks to be, an insightful interview with a brilliant and ethical visionary.
And who the hell is Real News Network?
This guy is pretty damned good.

(5,379 posts)the best source for independent news in video format, bar none, that I have found so far. On par with Amy Goodman and Bill Moyers - but with a broader perspective. They also have a regular segment with Bill Black on the shenanigans of the banksters, very enlightening. Only imho, of course.
On edit: here is their home page http://therealnews.com/t2/index.php
part 2

part 5

(6,002 posts)In his December 29, 2008, column for Truthdig, Hedges stated that "the inability to articulate a viable socialism has been our gravest mistake. It will ensure, if this does not soon change, a ruthless totalitarian capitalism."
Thank you, Coyotl, bring us more...please. K & R

(5,379 posts)"Furthermore, we have about 50% of the world's wealth but only 6.3% of its population. This disparity is particularly great as between ourselves and the peoples of Asia. In this situation, we cannot fail to be the object of envy and resentment. Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity without positive detriment to our national security. To do so, we will have to dispense with all sentimentality and day-dreaming; and our attention will have to be concentrated everywhere on our immediate national objectives. We need not deceive ourselves that we can afford today the luxury of altruism and world-benefaction."

So much for the "spreading freedom and democracy" meme, I guess.
