On top of the obvious criminality of the assault, it shows an utter lack of professionalism. Kurmudgeon Feb 2012 #5

of abuse. I'm so glad we have all of these ways of documenting these attacks upon the citizenry so that Mr. sucker punch Cop can be seen for the scum he appears to be. Makes me sick to my stomach.

I work with various special needs people, mentally disabled, ill, etc. Generally there are a handful of communications techniques: showing you are listening, communicating clearly, etc. that you need to de-escalate these situations. But not to long ago, cops became involved, and beat somebody I knew in this regard withing an inch of his life because he was confused and holding a butter knife... A situation patience and listening could have resolved.

What strikes me in retrospect, in generality, is seeing the "abstract" principles of non-violence, as advocated by Dr. King and Gandhi, expressed in such clear and practical terms. We are all human, we are all sometimes afraid, and often times what's more powerful than the most savage violence is the most simple communication, the most simple search for truth, and with it, peace. In this context there is seldom, if ever, a need for any kind of physical violence.

that makes me wish DU had a 'like' feature.
People these days are way too quick to anger. Always take the easy way out of any situation: violence. I watched that punch and I was disgusted by that pitiful excuse for a human being. I thought the police were supposed to be the peacemakers in our society. They are supposed to diffuse problems and bring down the level of violence. Instead we see this sorry excuse for a man beating up a girl. You take away the uniform, and that's all it is: a big guy beating up a girl. I pity bullies like that sorry bastard. And others like him.

Sorry. I used the wrong term. It's late and I had a long day.
But yes. Peace keepers. Protectors of society, and especially people like that woman. But they have become bullies. That line of work, the need to control others, to make people feel low, attracts a certain kind of person. When they were in school, they were the jocks. The bullies. Now they have the power to kill and torture at will. They have great little toys like pepper spray and tasers to play out their sociopathic little games. And you can bet your bottom dollar. These two horrible people will not be charged with anything. Cops are hardly ever held to account for the crimes they commit. That woman never raised her fist to him, but he assaulted her with no provocation. The most we can expect is that he'll ride a desk for a couple of weeks then be back on the street.

now that he's "busted" a cop, the "brotherhood" would somehow fail him at the academy.

No, maybe a reporter.
