Torrent of lies doing what's intended; wearing us down

By Tom Burke / Herald Columnist

Are you tired, really tired, of having to fact-check everything a MAGA-Republican-Trumpist says?

Like when House Speaker Mike Johnson, declared, “There is currently an unprecedented and a clear and present danger to the integrity of our election system, and that is the threat of non-citizens and illegal aliens voting in our elections.” So as part of the GOP’s President Biden-bashing-border-blitz, Johnson says we need legislation making it illegal for the undocument to register and vote.

Sounds responsible, reasonable, truthful even? But it’s a lie. A really-easy-to-discover lie. Not only did he say there was no proof non-citizens are voting in national elections (“We don’t have that number.”) it’s been illegal for them to register and vote since 1926. See the Brennan Center’s and the Carnegie Corporation’s fact checks of numerous myths about immigration here: (tinyurl.com/BrennanVoting; tinyurl.com/CarnegieImmigration).

Personally, I’ve grown very, very weary of the lies; the outright, bold, easily disproved lies that pour like a tsunami of dung from the mouths of the MAGA right-wing shills who pimp for Donald Trump.

First we don't want to hear them, then eventually we stop listening and beyond that we stop caring. It's a lecture I've been giving myself recently. Don't stop listening, don't stop caring, and for the love of might, don't stop believing that we can get through this mess. And, dear Gusie, it is a mess and I'm tired of it too. The things those people have done to my country.

And become habituated to constant lying and gaslighting.

Like the people in Russia, China, North Korea, etc.

I said I would send cards where needed...so although I live in Ohio, I am sending the postcards to Georgia voters.

Seriously ... how far back does this go? Even Richard Nixon lied when he said "Elect me President and I'll end the Vietnam War."

Those of us who can even remember Eisenhower ... well, he was the last respectable, non-lying Republican. But he was from the era of my Grandpa's Republican Party, and they're all long gone now.
