Trump Latest Campaign Strategy: Co-Opt Biden Claims About Threat To Democracy: Pres Is The Threat

The Guardian, March 20, 2024. - A month-by-month look at Trump’s evolving language as he attempts to assert it’s Biden who will endanger the nation - and not him. - Ed.

On the cusp of the election year, Trump made a decision: knowing Biden would structure his campaign around the threat Trump poses to US democracy, Trump would use the same line back at Biden. It was an unlikely bet, given that Trump is facing 88 criminal charges for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. But Trump started laying out that message last summer, sprinkling into his speeches the idea that the US president was “grossly incompetent” and that such incompetence posed a threat to democracy.

As charges rolled in against the former president, none of them lodged by Biden himself, he added the claim that Biden was also using his power to shut down his opponent, threatening democracy by engaging in “election interference”. As 6 Jan. 2024 approached, three years after the insurrection, Trump ramped up his attempt to turn one of his liabilities against his opponent.

On the 2024 campaign trail, Trump falsely claims to be a savior of democracy and, with increasing harshness, says Biden is the threat.

At a rally in Ohio this month, Trump predicted an end to US democracy if he doesn’t win the race. “I don’t think you’re going to have another election in this country, if we don’t win this election … certainly not an election that’s meaningful,” he said. The “threat to democracy” retort was Trump’s latest attempt at rebranding the truth, a practiced part of his effort to create an alternate reality for his disciples.

In that mirror world, Trump is both the victim and the strongman, the only person who can drive out an underworld of deep-staters who control the country and have unjustly targeted him because he threatens their supposed dominance. The wealthy businessman casts himself as an everyman, the guy willing to say what others are thinking, no matter how uncouth. - Timeline...

is spreading and the strategy claiming Biden is the real threat to democracy. Informing Americans of the lies and dangers is critical, not promotion. The same for the potential rise of authoritarianism and the loss of democracy; the end of separation of church and state; the dominance of Christian fundamentalism, theocracy, and more.

others who follow or hear some news, mostly mainstream. Many are Democrats, some lifelong, who will vote, for Democrats. But they do not read and learn key aspects of what is happening and are unaware of the real extent of serious threats to democracy, freedom and institutions that America faces. The more information and news that gets out about pressing issues and how critical the upcoming election is to democracy's survival is all positive.

As for those who want democracy destroyed, I'm well aware they exist, in sizeable numbers but it's crucial that they do not succeed in 2024 and take down American democracy.

at work is really rough. That would be difficult for me but I'd cope as best as possible and probably not try to leave the job for practical reasons like others in the same situation.

Kudos for holding up in a full- on red area and good you're in a majority blue state at least.

I've never served in the military or faced warfare like some in the family. But from studying history and traveling I've learned a lot, esp how people can be monstrous to each other in pursuing territory and riches, and over national, tribal and religious differences.

Those in power with larger goals often manipulate people into fighting each other as is well known for thousands of years - divide and rule. My hope is things start to improve for America before too long, particularly the harsh divisions and strife. That will take real effort, first is turn down down the heat and vote big this year for democracy. The country must to get on a more stable course, and soon.

I am grateful for the opportunities i have been afforded. That said,, it has taken a great toll on me since COVID. None of them could be bothered to give a shit that my spouse is compromised. The sheer terror of being ordered back to work in person with these people (before the vaccine) cannot be overstated. I will never get over that.

I too have never served in the military. My father was a WWII Veteran. All of this is very personal to my family. I’m so glad he isn’t here to see this.

I really think we are going to kick the shit out of the recons. The pugs are squeeling mighty loud. We all have to donate, and put the work in our areas to get as many Democrats in office as possible.

Joseph Goebbels' instruction to the Nazis: accuse your enemy of what you're planning.

We've been seeing a LOT of this.
