Backfired on 'em! Georgia voting
https://wapo.st/3wxXU0KVoting is surging in Georgia despite controversial new election law
GRIFFIN, Ga. When the Spalding County Board of Elections eliminated early voting on Sundays, Democrats blamed a new state law and accused the Republican-controlled board of intentionally thwarting Souls to the Polls, a get-out-the-vote program among Black churches to urge their congregations to cast ballots after religious services.
But after three weeks of early voting ahead of Tuesdays primary, record-breaking turnout is undercutting predictions that the Georgia Election Integrity Act of 2021 would lead to a falloff in voting. By the end of Friday, the final day of early in-person voting, nearly 800,000 Georgians had cast ballots more than three times the number in 2018, and higher even than in 2020, a presidential year.

from what I read in the Atlanta Journal, the real primary voter surge is from GOPers. Well have to do better in November.

(24,736 posts)Will re-listen to the article. I got the impression it was due to work of Dem activists.

(11,098 posts)I voted in the Arkansas GQP primary because all the local races will be decided in the GQP primary and there are people running in the GQP primary statewide, like Sara "Smokey Eyes" Huckabee Sanders, that I wanted to vote against - twice.
In open primary states, the numbers voting in each primary doesn't mean what it does in closed primary states.

(3,816 posts)the GQP has so greatly overplayed their hand, they are going to get slaughtered in the next two elections and all of their attempts to stack the deck will fail as well.
I don't know who leaked the SCOTUS decision but that was the final nail.

(42,704 posts)The fact that 800,000 have cast early ballots in and of itself doesn't mean that Democrats are voting in record numbers. Indeed, given that the the outcome of the primaries for the Democratic nominees for Governor and Senator are foregone conclusions while the repub primary for governor is drawing a lot of attention, I expect repub turnout will be much heavier than Democratic turnout in the primary.

Glad to hear they have voted early and in droves though

(531 posts)Now te republicans will have to straight up cheat by eliminating their government and installing politician they want without a fair public vote.

(2,957 posts)I'd bet $1000 that Republicans are already conspiring to find ways to invalidate as many of these pending mail-in votes as possible. It'll be a dry-run for overturning the general election.
Democracy is over. We've got to work on an America 2.0 where each side can have the governance they want without being under the thumb of the other.
