Jerry Falwell Jr. can't imagine Trump 'doing anything that's not good for the country'
Jerry Falwell Jr., 56, took over as president of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., in 2007, following the death of his father, the Rev. Jerry Falwell, who founded the school. He lives with his wife, Becki, in Bedford County, Va.
You said recently that conservatives and Christians should stop electing nice guys. Arent Christians supposed to be nice guys?
Of course, of course. But thats where people get confused. I almost laugh out loud when I hear Democrats saying things like, Jesus said suffer the little children to come unto me and try to use that as the reason we should open up our borders.
Its such a distortion of the teachings of Jesus to say that what he taught us to do personally to love our neighbors as ourselves, help the poor can somehow be imputed on a nation. Jesus never told Caesar how to run Rome. He went out of his way to say thats the earthly kingdom, Im about the heavenly kingdom and Im here to teach you how to treat others, how to help others, but when it comes to serving your country, you render unto Caesar that which is Caesars. Its a distortion of the teaching of Christ to say Jesus taught love and forgiveness and therefore the United States as a nation should be loving and forgiving, and just hand over everything we have to every other part of the world. Thats not what Jesus taught. You almost have to believe that this is a theocracy to think that way, to think that public policy should be dictated by the teachings of Jesus.

(10,252 posts)Jerry Jr ain't very imaginative. Let's talk about "nice guys." I'm a Buddhist and believe that the enlightened activities of a Buddha are pacifying and calming down upset people, enriching people with their needs and wisdom, magnitizing people via leadership, and dissolving and destroying what harms people. A "nice guy" does not quietly stand-by in the presence of injustice and evil. A "nice guy" works with enthusiastic perseverance to correct injustice and destroy evil.
I view Jerry's cultish religion as inimical to the happiness and enlightenment of humans, and injurious to the health of our planet. Ditto Trump. Jerry JR can go eat a bug.

(36,786 posts)Pat Robertson, Falwell and their ilk are CBR - Cash Based Religion.
Judas was an early modern day conservative disciple.
Judas got 30 pieces of silver, but just once, for selling Christ.
Pat Robertson, Falwell, Jim Bakker and their ilk get millions of dollars repeatedly for selling Christ.
Judas was a fool for doing a one-time sale.

(4,830 posts)Good questions to get Falwell on record. I suspect Falwell can't imagine Trump doing anything "not good" because his own moral compass is broken. Would love to hear how others in his circle respond to the interview. I hope WaPo asks them.
