Anti-Islam op-ed distorts reality, could harm people (The Tennessean)

10:40 a.m. CST January 23, 2015

...

In green-lighting Carol Swain's transparently ignorant rant about Islam, with language that could be taken as a call for a pogrom against American Muslims, The Tennessean has put its imprimatur on a piece that differs from the Protocols in degree but not in kind.

The problem is not that Swain criticized Muslims. Islam may be a religion of peace, but it has a cancerous problem today with violence. The problem is fueled by adherents of a medieval view of the religion that finds followers from London and Paris to Jakarta.

But instead of focusing on this legitimate issue, Swain's screed shamelessly conflated all Muslims with what remains a small minority within the faith.

By her "logic," Christianity should be understood according the actions of Christian extremists who bombed abortion clinics, or murdered each other in Northern Ireland, or massacred Muslims in Bosnia and Kosovo.
