Obama: There's A Less Than 50/50 Chance Of Nuclear Deal With Iran

Source: NPR

<snip>

During the almost two-hour conference, Obama and Cameron touched on terrorism, climate change, cyber security and foreign policy.

Here are some highlights of what they said:

— President Obama said the chances of a diplomatic deal with Iran are "probably less than 50/50."

— But, he said, adding more sanctions would likely scuttle the deal and Iran would be "able to maintain that the reason they ended negotiations is because the U.S. was acting in bad faith."

The negotiations and expected results seem to mirror the diplomatic 'deals' with the North Koreans over the years. From their refining uranium, enriching it, developing bombs, testing bombs etc. Does anyone think that Iran will 'deal' with the Great Satan the US any more honestly than the NK's have ? Dealing with fanatic regimes like these have never resulted in any positive outcome.

The fact is that the interim agreement is the ONLY recent period when the time estimate of how long it will take them to create a bomb has been increased rather than decreased.

I suspect that getting a deal will be difficult because neither side really trusts the other -- and both consider that that lack of faith justified. Still, rather than being cynical, I hope that the better people on both sides are able to win over the hardliners on both that want to derail any deal.
