Islamic State: Turkey to let Iraq Kurds join Kobane fight

Turkey will allow Iraqi Kurdish fighters to cross the Syrian border to fight Islamic State (IS) militants in Kobane, its foreign minister says.
Mevlut Cavusoglu added that talks on the subject were continuing, but gave no further details.

The Turkish announcement is a surprise and a significant shift, the BBC's Mark Lowen in Istanbul says.
Only hours before Mr Cavusoglu's comments, the United States military said it had carried out air drops of weapons, ammunition and medical supplies to the Syrian Kurdish fighters around Kobane.

(6,045 posts)ground to make up if they want any "goodwill" from the Kurds...President Tayyip Erdogan has done everything he can to use ISIS to slaughter as many Kurdish fighters as possible...I loathe the man!
However, if this is true, and I say "IF", then it is about time...But Turkey has already said they would do things & then quickly take it back or claim they never said it. We will see.

In a telephone call on Saturday, President Barack Obama told Turkish President Reçep Tayyip Erdogan that the U.S. intended to resupply the Kurdish fighters with Iraqi Kurdish arms.
