Gates worried about notion of US disengagement

Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates says he’s worried there’s a perception of the United States “disengaging” from global affairs.

Gates, who also once headed the CIA, says he recognizes the ocean-to-ocean diplomacy the Obama administration has been carrying out in the Mideast and Eastern Europe and other world hot spots like Africa.

Yet, he says, quote, “I think there is a perception around the world of the United States as disengaging.” Gates tells CBS News he thinks more focus needs to be given to longer-term, over short-term, solutions for world crises, with the aim of preventing a recurrence.

He attributes the impression of disengagement to the fact that the U.S. has ended, or is withdrawing from, wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for which there is no clear American victory.

should stay in a war that we didn't belong in to begin with just to have a "clear American victory".......

Korea - ended in a cease fire. NO CLEAR AMERICAN VICTORY

Vietnam - We withdrew. NO CLEAR AMERICAN VICTORY

Gulf War - Pulled out before reaching Baghdad. NO CLEAR AMERICAN VICTORY

Iraq War - The place is in worse shape than before we got there. NO CLEAR AMERICAN VICTORY

Does this asshole not remember history? The only recent clear American victory that we have had was Grenada.

You'd never know, with the nearly frantic call of every republican anytime a firecracker pops anywhere in the world. McCain comes out waving his little dinosaur arms frantically, just below his head, and Lindsay Graham with his "Well, I nev-uh," attitude ya'll.

OK, so how are we going to pay for these involvements? We're broke, and largely because of Bush's two unfinanced wars and tax cuts that (Ugh) Obama made permanent. If we're not going to get the deficit covered and start making payments on the budget, then I say let's go to maintenance levels, and hand the badge of "World Police" over to Europe for a while. We're broke!

They take those who 'make it quick' and run them. Or they show them what they can do, behind the scenes. This game has ruined man-kind. No one is allowed to 'be kind'.

Also, now ISIS wants girls "mutilated". Is this not to enrage u.s.?

He's just not happy that we don't have an active war going on to further enrich the MIC and so is pouting. Can't have a president that resolves things without shooting first, now can we?
