Obama seeks to defuse controversy on missile comments

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama voiced doubt on Tuesday on the prospects for progress with Moscow on missile defense until after the November U.S. election as he staunchly defended remarks caught on camera the day before with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

Obama was overheard assuring Medvedev on Monday that he would have "more flexibility" to deal with contentious arms-control issues after the November 6 presidential ballot, drawing sharp criticism back home from his Republican foes.

Speaking on the sidelines of a global nuclear security summit in Seoul, Obama sought to put the controversy to rest but made clear that his earlier comments reflected a political reality that "everybody understands."

"I don't think it's any surprise that you can't start that a few months before presidential and congressional elections in the United States and at a time when they just completed elections in Russia," Obama told reporters with Medvedev at his side.

1. A very simple explanation

He could be even more simplistic. Just explain that what he meant was that ANYTHING he did in the coming months would be met with extreme cynicism back home as being some sort of "election year politics". Waiting until after the election "gives him more space" to present negotiated solutions to Congress without the appearance of attempting to influence either his own re-election, or that of Senators.

And whether he meant that or not, it wouldn't be far from the truth.

when the thugs have no record on which to run and they have to wait for something that is a reasonable comment, considering where we are in the calendar and what year it is, to parse to death.

had the thugs spurred job growth at a mammoth scale, had they left women's issues alone, had they had a good, solid, fair plan to grow the economy--IOW: DONE THEIR JOB instead of whoring for the 1/10th of 1%, they wouldn't be reduced to this petty bullshit to make headlines.

the only people this will rile up are the stupid fux noose watchers--those of low IQ already who suffer from cognitive dissonance.

And so did Brian Williams last night.

David Gregory, Chucky Todd, Matty Lauer and Williams are all right-wing shills endlessly promoting repubican Talking Points.
