Bret Michaels rushed off stage during concert because of medical emergency

Source: WTHR Indiana

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Bret Michaels was rushed off the stage during a concert Thursday night because of a medical emergency.

In a post on the band's website and official Facebook fan page, Michaels' guitarist Pete Evick said:

This is a message I never imagined I'd have to post. Tonight in Manchester, NH 3 songs into the set Bret had me sing a song as he rushed off stage. In the 9 years I've stood next to him, I've never seen a look like the one on his face as if I was a complete stranger. One of the crew returned instantly to notify me that Bret's blood sugar was extremely low.

He returned to the stage only to announce that he could not continue. As you all know he is a health fanatic and fiercely monitors his blood sugar, he basically had to be dragged off the stage in his sickest of conditions. When I rushed to the bus he could barley speak, but begged me to apologize to the fans and seemed only concerned for them.

As of [Thursday evening], he is with paramedics being evaluated.

I hope he'll be okay. My oldest daughter was a big fan back in her teeny-bopper days.

She's actually a rock singer herself, and her husband plays a mean lead guitar. They probably have their own issues of Metal Edge stashed away somewhere.

he bragged of how he didn't let diabetes stop him from living the rock and roll lifestyle. And this wouldn't be his first near-fatal attack.

one of the phlebotomists where I donate blood told me about how she ducked away from a Poison concert to help take care of a young girl who fainted.....only to be thrilled when Mr. Michaels paused at the end of the song and showed up at the health tent to check on the girl and thank the folk who helped her.........he even gave them bandanas.........so sweet

...Bret Michaels was physically forced to leave the stage last night at the Palace Theater in Manchester, New Hampshire due to complications involving insulin shock & severe low blood sugar...

Michaels attempted to return to the stage to finish the show however it was clear to the band, crew, and audience that he would not be able to continue, as he walked of the stage and became violently ill...

Complications with his...ability to balance his blood sugar levels arose. Michaels was rushed by ambulance to CMC (Catholic Medical Center), and monitored through the evening... Doctors... determined... other conditions includ(ing) exhaustion, dehydration, fever and the noro flu virus...

Michaels will not be able to perform this evening in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania as doctors have ordered him to let the flu virus run its course and let his blood sugar re-balance and remain consistent...

Type 1 diabetes complicates health issues such as the nora flu virus and must be monitored and taken very seriously. (link)

If he hadn't been getting enough rest or taking in enough fluids, this was crisis just begging to happen.
