Helicopter May Land Ukraine's Military in Hot Water With U.N.

Source: NBC News

The United Nations expressed concern Wednesday over footage purporting to show Ukrainian troops using a helicopter painted with the organization's colors and insignia.

Russian news website Life News reported that three U.N.-painted Mil Mi-24 combat helicopters and one Mi-8 transport helicopter had been spotted assisting government troops in eastern Ukraine. The footage could not be independently verified by NBC News.

A U.N. spokesperson told NBC News that the helicopters seen by Life News may have been aircraft used on these missions that had not been repainted on their return. This would be a violation of the U.N.'s agreement with its member states.

"We are concerned, and we have made our concerns clear about these reports," said Farhan Haq, deputy spokesperson for U.N. General Secretary Ban Ki-moon. "We are in contact with Ukrainian authorities on the issue.

The urge to return to the totalitarian ways of the Soviet Communism is a basically reactionary (neocon) stance, and Putin appeals to the anti-democratic, might-makes-right, iron-fist mindset just like the neocons.

And about McCain: no; in fact, I was an organizer of antiwar demonstrations in the prelude to the invasion of Iraq

I've also lived in the places that the Soviets destroyed and visited the places Putin is waging war and invasion on. I've lived in E.Europe and been to Ukraine include Crimea, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary...

I don't understand people like you who are fanatically against one side's warmaking but fanatically for a gay-bashing, democracy-stomping, free-press closing, invading and warmaking dictator like Putin. What the fuck is pro-peace about that?

Jesus Malverde

It was the same words the cheerleaders of GWBs war in Iraq was using against everyone who was against that war - and who also was more fact based than everyone who loved the idea of going to war against Iraq - mostly because of what would happened after the invasion - and we who was against it - had it right - down to the last word - and the ones who accused us of being "sadamite" or "saddam- lover" and the rest - got it so wrong - in all aspect of it...

Do you was a pro-War person before the Iraq war - since you use the same language as the neocon and the ones who liked the idea of going to war in Iraq - of course not them self - but someone else that is..

There is a relatively "left" population in Ukraine and it's probably stronger than the left in some of the Arab Spring countries. There is still a Communist Party which, although heavily involved in electoral politics and now more reformist than revolutionary, gets a significant proportion of the vote in Ukraine. There's also Barotba, another left grouping that's pretty active. There's a working class resistance that just beginning to organize in the east. Moreso, there's a LARGE contingent of the population that actually IS anti-fascist and is showing signs of active resistance to the western gangs of "civil activists" made up of Right Sector thugs, that have taken the place of the unreliable military in the attempted subduing of eastern Ukraine.

Eastern Ukraine would be a place for an active anti-fascist resistance United Front if there ever was one.

Oh, Putin never makes shit up, right? Putin didn't at first deny and then admit he had soldiers in Crimea, right? Putin didn't declare the fake Crimea referendum a landslide, and then have his own gov accidentally release the figures showing it to be bunk, right?
