A federal judge approved a $2.2 million settlement on Monday for the family of a man who was shot and killed by a Manteca police officer almost three years ago.
Manteca will pay the family of Ernesto Duenez Jr. for his June 8, 2011, death, said the familys attorney, John Burris.
Officer James Moody shot Duenez, 34, after ordering him to get out of the passenger side of a truck that had pulled up in front of a friends home. Moody and his partner had gone to the house because Duenez, whose parole had been revoked, was wanted in connection with a domestic-violence incident earlier in the day.
Video from Moodys patrol car, released by Burris the day after prosecutors cleared Moody of any wrongdoing, showed Moody firing 13 bullets in 4.2 seconds, striking Duenez 11 times, including four shots while Duenez was on the ground.
