KC Authorities Suspect Serial Sniper in 6 Highway Shootings

Source: CBS News

Missouri authorities are asking for federal helping in catching a serial shooter.

They're trying to find out who's behind more than a dozen sniper-like attacks on drivers on Kansas City freeways over the past month.

Three drivers have been wounded by gunfire as they drove along area highways, many in an area called the Three Trails Crossing, where three interstate highways intersect.

Ten of the 13 shootings happened in Kansas City, including Sunday evening when a 56-year-old man was eastbound on Interstate 435 near I-470 when he was shot in the left calf.

I need to get off DU and all my other national news sites and pay attention to the local news. I'm in KC, and this is the first I've heard of it.

I live North of the river and almost never go out there. But whoever this is could just fine another stretch of highway to hit.

Right now I think there are more police, highway patrol and FBI out there than there are drivers. It's a very scary situation.

morning, anywhere near the triangle.....so either they are hidden really really well, or they think it is more random as well. It's just hard to know what to expect but I can't just avoid the triangle most of the time.

8. How do you catch a random sniper?

It took a long time to get those guys in DC.

I'm sure they have some kind of eyes on those roads.

From the news though it didn't sound like a sniper. It sounded like these guys were pulling right up next to these cars. And they were always at a place in the road where they could get off quickly.

But what do I know? One woman said the guy pulled up that had on a face mask and glasses. That would be so frightening.

I wondered if this could be some kind of gang thing. Some kind of batshit crazy initiation.

Unfortunately, we have folks here at DU that have studied sniper practices and procedures. A lot. These individuals provided commentary during the course of the DC shootings, and it was highly unpleasant. Best not to encourage them.

that we wondered if the people were driving on the highway in the opposite direction, because it happened during rush hour and they wouldn't want to get "trapped" in traffic if they needed to make a quick escape, and also because they have only even hit 3 out of 13 people in cars so you woudl think if they were going the same direction it would make it less random and they would be able to cause more injuries. Hmmmm, don't know but do hope they get some more leads at least. With all the cameras around nowadays...literally covering most of the triangle area, you would think they could at least find a good car description (besides that I heard it might be a green car).
