Rep. Raul Labrador, a key Republican supporter of immigration reform, said he doesnt expect the House will try to find common ground with the Senate on a comprehensive overhaul after feeling burned by the budget battle.
Absolutely not, Labrador (R-Idaho) said at a conservative panel on Wednesday. If the president is going to show the same kind of good faith effort that hes shown in the last couple of weeks, I think it would be crazy for the House Republican leadership to enter into negotiations with him on immigration.
Labrador, who was at one time part of a bipartisan group in the House trying to strike a deal on immigration, said the way the continuing resolution and debt ceiling fights have shaken out prove Republicans shouldnt take up the issue.
I think what [President Barack Obama] has done over the last two and half weeks, hes trying to destroy the Republican Party and I think that anything we negotiate right now with the president on immigration will be with that same goal in mind, which is to destroy the Republican Party and not to get good policies.

So there you have it. House Republicans are now going to refuse to negotiate over a bipartisan Senate bill that was co-sponsored by Rick Rubio of all people, because it would give President Obama another win, and they just aren't going to let him win another battle.

(4,103 posts)let's going after the the people who support immigration, he haven't fucked with them in a few months.
With all due respect Rep.Labrador, the President has far more pressing matters which require his attention than destroying your party, beside you fucking morons are doing a stellar job on your own, I doubt he's want to interrupt your progress.

(10,724 posts)has yet to sink in? If the last couple of weeks hasn't impressed them, apparently its right back to dick-waving and spite. Maybe they can repeal Obamacare a few more times to make them feel better about themselves - anything but actually legislating.

(86,775 posts)there is a lot of pissing and moaning about what not expanding medicare under the ACA now that constituents are discovering that they are screwed thanks to their "representative" and governor... and they are also whining about how much harm has come to them since there's no Farm Bill - welfare for ranchers - and SNAP money and all the other $$ that red state depends on from the goddamguvmit. I think they are starting to get it. Every one of Idaho's Congressional delegates voted against this Bill tonight....
