Eric Cantor Dismisses Clean Bill To Reopen Government
Source: Huffington Post
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said Thursday that a bill to reopen the government must chip away at Obamacare, despite growing calls from his own members for a "clean" funding bill with no such strings attached.
A reporter pointed out that at least 17 House Republicans have now said they'd vote for a clean bill, which is the required number to pass such a measure, with the support of all Democratic members. In fact, the number has hit at least 20, but Cantor was uninterested. The reporter then asked Cantor why House leadership would not bring a funding bill up for a vote and fight Obamacare within the context of the debt limit.
"The speaker and I have both said that the Republican position is we believe we should fund this government, but we also believe that there should not be any special treatment for anyone, and that is why we believe the right solution to that is to provide for a delay of the individual mandate under the health care law," Cantor said.
"And in the same vein and perhaps with even more intensity, no way in the world should members of Congress get special treatment under that law either," he added. "So all we've got to do is come together, and we can iron out the differences."

(6,025 posts)they just don't seem to have any idea when they cross the line of completely destroying their credibility (well... in the eyes of some... they have none with so many of us) and seriously damaging their reputation. Boner is probably going to seriously tie one on tonight and every night in the near-term. They can always be counted on to go way too far.
Cantor and the other teabaggers have no qualms about slashing his political throat if he doesn't go along with them, but Boner's too stupid to realize he could potentially destroy the tea party and come out smelling like a rose by aligning with Republican pseudo-moderates and Dems to end the shutdown.

(15,812 posts)If they need to take something away from this, well, ok, I would definitely go along with getting rid of the Congressional exemption. The Senate should give in on that only, and then the Teabaggers can save face, or whatever..................and the government can be back in business.

(31,849 posts)and gop supporters saying that they must do something about ObamaCare ... and the media, even the media on the left, just accepts it (of course, except when they are talking to each other).
Ehen is someone in the media going to risk their job and ask these gopers the obvious question ... "So Mr./Ms. goper, I get that you don't like ObamaCare; but are you saying that you would be okay if Senate Democrats said, 'Okay gop, we feel really, really strongly about healthcare and guns ... so you pass single-payer and a national gun registry or we will shut-down government?'"
I have asked several of my rightwing friends that very question and have yet to get a response, other than that's different ... with them never able to explain how.

(429 posts)The President needs to close all the airports and cause serious pain onto the teabaggers in other ways as well to force them to their knees begging him to stop. Enough is enough....They don't get to call the shots, He is the President...and he needs to lead like a commanding President. Put some hurt on the republicans, get them to start crying, take back the power.
