Cannes thief 'steals 40m euros of jewels' from hotel

Source: BBC

An armed man has stolen jewels worth about 40m euros ($53m, £34m) in the French Riviera resort of Cannes, officials say.

They say the hold-up took place on Sunday morning at a jewellery exhibition at the Carlton Hotel.
...
An exhibition of diamonds by the jeweller Leviev was being held in the lobby of the hotel, the BBC's Hugh Schofield reports.

Local media said the robber made off with the jewels in a briefcase. It is not yet known who the owner was.

And I hope that if a studio PR person came up with it, he/she got a huge raise...

Sent by a reporter to Cary Grant (possibly meant to go to his publicist):

"How old Cary Grant?"

Reply from Grant:

"Old Cary Grant fine. How you?"

Seems some beautiful people were having an invitation-only party one time, and Cary was invited. So he's standing in the queue to get in, and when he gets to the guardian of the gates he says, "I'm sorry, I forgot my invitation."
"Oh yeah?" sez the rent-a-cop, "who are you?"
"Cary Grant."
The rent-a-cop squints, then sez "You don't look like Cary Grant," to which Cary replies
"I know, no one does."

don't really feel sorry for the loss to these people. Insurance will cover it. Big theft, but who really cares with all the strife and misery in the world.

Considering the guy they broke out of the prison had only six months left to serve, the timing here is ... interesting, to say the least, lol.

Value of stolen Cannes jewels soars to 100m euros

The value of jewels stolen in a dramatic theft in the French Riviera resort of Cannes has been raised to about 103m euros ($136m; £89m).

The figure was given by a French prosecutor. It would make the Carlton Hotel raid one of the biggest gem heists in Europe this century.
