Though the schedule change had been announced last week, North Carolina NAACP President Rev. William Barber accused the Republican majority of trying to duck the protesters.
"You can run, but you can hide," Barber chided lawmakers in addressing the crowd. "When we come here and they are here, they want to drag us out. Then when they knew the national TV was on them, they tucked their tails and ran" ...

(7,672 posts)This is the GOP committing suicide, much like the Whigs.
I wonder what new party we'll get when the Republicans are dead and buried? It could come quickly - the Whigs only last two more years after the Republicans were formed.

(19,841 posts)on Monday nights there is an evening session of the NC General Assembly and by entering the assembly building (which is normally open to the public) around 6 pm--they are arrested for second degree trespassing and failure to disperse ("unlawful assembly" . They are bused en masse to the city detention center, processed and released after several hours. In what has become a Monday ritual, 920 arrests have been made, and nobody is arrested more than once.
This video shows those who have agreed to be arrested entering the building:
A legal team that thinks the arrest of non-violent protest violates their first amendment rights will represent the protesters and most of those arrested had unsecured bonds that allowed them to make bail.

The following video shows an NC attorney announcing the filing of an appeal of the NC redistricting case where race was used to redraw voting districts. "We will fight them as long as it takes, to the NC Supreme Court and the US Supreme Court if necessary." Will also fight additional voting suppression laws.

"Just the price you pay..." said one GOP legislator. They are not concerned about the cost of this protest, as long as they can ramrod their agenda through...and rip off the people of NC in as many ways as possible, while giving benefits to their corporate and banking friends.
