Booker continues to hold commanding lead in Senate contest

Source: PolitickerNJ

Newark Mayor Cory Booker maintains the daunting lead he has shown throughout the U.S. Senate contest, according to a new poll from Monmouth University.

According to the poll from Monmouth University, 49 percent of respondents said they would vote for the mayor in the upcoming Democratic primary. Just 12 percent say they would vote for his next closest competitor, U.S Rep. Frank Pallone. U.S. Rep. Rush Holt at 8 percent and Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver at 3 percent round out the field.

Booker maintained a lead of about 40 points throughout the primary contest. The winner will face either Republican Steve Lonegan, who also leads in the polls, or Dr. Alieta Eck in the race to fill the seat formerly held by Sen. Frank Lautenberg, who died last month.

Voters largely have a favorable view of Booker with nearly two thirds (64 percent) saying they like the Newark mayor and only 8 percent holding an unfavorable view. A third of voters have a favorable view of Pallone against just 3 percent holding an unfavorable view, but 65 percent have no opinion of the the Congressman.

But regardless - I won't be voting for either Lonegan or 'Ick' as we call her in October. Eck is a really icky TEA Party type and Lonegan is just a typical entitled Republican.

The fact that the focus is on the Democratics should tell everyone at DU that there is a better chance of meeting God in the next five minutes than the people of NJ giving Lautenberg's seat to an IndieTeaPublican. Love Booker or hate him - he's faaaaaaaaaaaaar better than either of those two assclowns on the right.

I have less hopes for Van Jones, but I like him too, maybe even more. I just don't always get what I want.
