Twinkies Set to Make 'Sweetest Comeback' in July

Twinkies will soon be making a triumphant return to store shelves, according to Hostess' website.
The company, which went bankrupt in 2012 and is under new management, is touting the return on July 15 as "the sweetest comeback in the history of ever."
Hostess is now owned by the private equity firms Apollo Global Management and Metropoulos & Co.
"America wanted Hostess back -- they wanted the original. Very soon consumers will once again be able to enjoy Twinkies, CupCakes and other great Hostess snack cakes. A comeback by any other name could never be as sweet," Daren Metropoulos, principal of Metropoulos & Co., said in a statement to ABC News.

(13,324 posts)Obviously I know that we Americans eat a lot more junk food than we should. Though a big part of the problem is that healthy food - veggies, whole grains, etc. - is so damn expensive.

(10,336 posts)Besides, I have discovered Tasty Cakes, and while I know nothing about the company, their cakes are 10x better than Hostess ever thought about being.

(10,336 posts)cupcakes, but then again they are all smaller then they used to be anyway. Taste was awesome! And those Reese's snack bar thingy's are good, too. Not sure what their company is about, but seems like every time I hit the store they either have something new, or else bringing more of their line into this area.

(30,780 posts)I haven't had one of their cupcakes in a long time, either.
But I do wonder if they are going to change the ingredients and ruin the taste I remember. I can't eat Hershey's kisses any more. They wrecked those. And my husband used to LOVE Chips Ahoy cookies. They messed with them, and now he won't buy them.

(3,944 posts)who has never eaten a twinkie?
Looks good in the photo, but I've eschewed the processed stuff for years.
I finally tried them a year ago when my neighbor gave me a box. They tasted like plastic. Ugh!

(14,887 posts)years ago. I didn't like it and that was before ultra processing of food.
My mother never bought them. They were probably too expensive on her limited food budget. I never bought them because they weren't food.
Did Hostess make 'snowballs'? They were some filled cake concoction w/ a marshmallow-like icing/covering. I remember peeling off the covering and tossing it. But then I don't like the filling in Oreos either.

(10,926 posts)But we WERE supposed to eat them because they were made by union labor.
But we're not supposed to eat them now because they AREN'T made with union labor. If they DO unionize later, however, we ARE supposed to eat them, except we're not, because they're bad for you.

Yeah I don't get it either.

That said, I admit to a passion for some junk food. Not Twinkies, but I think the same company made a plain chocolate chocolate-frosted cupcake that came in packs of three and was to die for.

(30,252 posts)If it ain't union, it ain't a Twinkie. Yeah, it's non-nutritious mass-produced prole food, but it helped union workers provide for their families.
