Humble first-grader says teacher sent kids out, fondled her
By Robert Stanton | April 16, 2013 | Updated: April 16, 2013 9:22pm
A first-grade teacher at an Humble prep school cited her racial prejudice against black students in denying allegations that she fondled a girl in her classroom last month, according to court records. Esther Irene Stokes, 61, of Montgomery, was charged with indecency with a child April 10, court records show.
The 7-year-old student told police that Stokes, her teacher at Northwest Preparatory Academy Charter School, sent all the students out of the classroom and touched her on her "private part" on the outside of her clothes on March 1, according to a criminal complaint filed in the case.
Humble police met with Stokes after she failed a polygraph examination. Stokes denied touching the girl "on any part of her body," prosecutors said.
"The defendant stated that she doesn't like black students because she was prejudiced," the complaint states. She told police that "she does not like the complainant" and has "very little to no interaction" with her.

(53,998 posts)Kids need to feel loved and protected by the adults around them. That's such a heartbreaking story. How do mean people end up as teacher?

(3,261 posts)That's about as twisted as it gets. I feel deeply for this little girl and I am glad that Ms. Stokes is no longer teaching. She is clearly deranged.

(11,304 posts)she hates minorities? That is a 2fer for me. Abuses her and hates her color. How twisted can you get. Am surprised if she hated miniorities so much that no one in the school system knew that? Gosh, am floored.

in such an adequate way:
Irene Esther Stokes, 61, of Montgomery, is charged with indecency with a child. She was released from the Harris County Jail after posting a $10,000 bond.

She sounds backward, not very bright, & unable or unwilling to distinguish right from wrong. I'd love to see this trial on cable.

(9,067 posts)so it doesn't surprise me if there is racism at a charter school.
No matter the validity of the accusation (sometimes kids make things up to get the teacher in trouble), admitting that she is prejudice could get you removed from a regular public school. Charter schools can be "public" schools, but they have different rules and administration. In many cases, charter schools are racially segregated or exclude special students. Charter schools sometimes attract teachers who don't get along in normal public schools.

(43,146 posts)Sometimes kids do make things up. The story is a bit light on details.
Why would the teacher be so blatant about it, sending the other kids out of the classroom?
Why would the teacher agree to a polygraph test? Such tests can be wrong.
Admitting she doesn't like the student does not necessarily equate or validate the claims
the child made. Perhaps the child didn't like the teacher either, even before this alleged
incident.
Lots to be proven here. Hope it didn't happen. Perhaps it is a simple case of neither liking
the other one bit. How a judge or jury could sort out the truth ... what a nightmare.
Sounds to me like the teacher wanted to admonish the student privately, told her to behave
in class, and the student didn't like it. Kids can be sensitive.

(90,763 posts)She couldn't have abused the child because she's prejudiced against the child?
Damn.

(70,090 posts)loss of inhibition is a common symptom, whether it is the inhibition on fighting with someone or grabbing someone. seen it with my own eyes.
the incongruity of the excuse adds to the picture for me.

And the fighting and grabbing is generally sundowning- night terrors.
She'd have to be very far along and physically debilitated too to have those kinds of symptoms during the day.
You might have seen it with your eyes once, but seem to completely lack understanding about the progression of the disease.

(961 posts)anti gay republican that claimed he wasn't gay and that the AA guy claiming to have had sex with him must be lying because the pol didn't like black people? It was just after Larry Craig got caught in the Minneapolis Airport. "Rather a racist then thought a qu**r". Now it is being used to defend against this!?!?!?!
