Wayne LaPierre: If It’s Crazy To Put More Guns In Schools, Then Call Me Crazy

Source: TPM

EVAN MCMORRIS-SANTORO DECEMBER 23, 2012, 10:29 AM

In his first media appearance since the Friday press conference that drew outrage from gun control advocates, National Rifle Association vice president Wayne LaPierre once again made it clear Sunday on Meet The Press that the NRA is not going to change its hardline stance on gun regulations after the Newtown, Conn. shooting.

Not only did LaPeirre say there was no chance new gun control will pass in Congress, he made it clear he’s unfazed by the critics who attacked his press conference. “If it’s crazy to call for putting police and armed security in our schools to protect our children, then call me crazy,” LaPierre said.

It’s not only Democrats and progressives who balked in recent days at the NRA’s call for immediate Congressional action to put an armed police officer in every public school in the United States. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) rejected the idea and other Republicans have said the decision to should be left to local governments.

Following the Newtown, Conn. shooting, some pro-gun Democrats called on the NRA to come to the table as part of a holistic discussion about gun violence that includes examination of mental health and America’s “culture of violence” as well as gun control. LaPierre made it clear Sunday on NBC that’s not going to happen. He rejected talk of banning large-capacity magazines as well as spoke derisively about new plans for an assault weapons ban being drawn up by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).

“I think that’s a phony piece of legislation and i do not think it will pass for this reason: it is all based on lies that have been found out,” LaPierre said.

Guns are mobile. A town, county or state that passes the most stringent gun controls is powerless against guns that are brought into their jurisdiction through the mail or in person.

We need national gun control measures that ensure there are no "race for the bottom" jurisdictions. Trust me even if many states passed tighter gun controls, there would be states, especially in the South (where I live) that would fight for the privilege of being America's gun capital.

Who's going to pay for this largess so that you don't have to ask yourself the really hard questions, Wayne?

The taxpayers?

Typical "Socialize the risk" response from the Gun Nut Class.

It's probably time to expose the gun manufacturers to litigation for their wares again... That's what you're really afraid of isn't it, Wayne?

More armed teachers, principals and security officers in schools = more kids getting hold of guns.

If you lock them in the classroom, there's always the chance someone will forget to lock it and trust me, as a teacher for 25 years, the kids sometimes rummage in a teacher's desk or cabinets looking for pencils and stuff. Plus, what good does a locked gun do if a shooter is already shooting up your room?

If you wear it on a holster, there's the chance some kid will grab and get it.

Not a good plan.

A longtime Special Forces officer who served in Afghanistan before he was wounded offers his opinion on the NRA’s position, i.e: “If everyone had a gun, people would be able to kill a shooter before he caused too much mayhem.”

“This, simply put, is bullshit. There are people who train night and day to be good at shooting bad guys in situations where there are innocents in close proximity and even those people screw up because a gunfight is not a shooting range. People are dying and screaming and there is blood and all that silly shit you ‘think’ you’re going to do goes right out the window when you are in that crazy environment.”

The same veteran on the high-capacity magazines that the NRA has fought so hard to keep on the market. “There is no reason for a noncombatant citizen of our country to have a weapon that can shoot 30 rounds of ammunition. I have been in many gunfights in ‘bona fide’ war-zones and only a few times did I have to use that many bullets. If you are a hunter or a sports shooter, you don’t need a 30-round magazine to do either of those things.”

Anyone with a brain can see through your act. You could care less about the 26 people who were slain. Why should the government waste taxpayer money trying to put out fires with more fire? If anything, that money ought to be spent on providing more adequate school supplies and classrooms.

I still would like to know how Psycho Paths from the NRA can be given the opportunity to own and fire a gun and how the flaming Psycho Paths and idiot's are given more air time to vent his thinking of distained to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness by none other than David Gregory on MEET MY REPUBLICAN PRESS another Psycho Path.
The NRA rationale is to have armed guards in the school yard, what's next Guard Towers with machine guns and have crazed guards looking for the madman---that would be bad, Psycho Paths looking for Psycho Paths because they have a gun. We would have to design a sign to say who is bad and who is good---go figure.
Its like the old and tired axiom from the right, Guns don't kill people, people kill people.
Yep, they sure do with a knife, gun, bomb, ect....a paranoid behavior--the story of mankind.
This assine logic from the Psycho Paths and all of these supporters that side with this logic needs to be called into question--who is really running this and other gun rights groups, the media Psycho Paths and the death machine called the manufactures of death by gun, bombs, ect.....for a profit.

We have some paranoid organization(s) that think that the government, our government of the people is the bad guy---how?
It has to asked how the hell did this happen.
I know what it was like in the 60's and 70's and why, but this shit is over the top and since we lost the Fairness Doctrine we are now living in the media of greed caused by less public ownership even though its ours, and its sold to the highest bidder of hypocrisy and sensational news broadcasting to balance the debt caused by greed.
We get sound bites of deciet and deception and then we wonder why were in the shape were in---really.
We have no real first amendment rights anymore, look at what happened to the Occupy Wall Street battle of greed by the media and the Wall Street machine and the 1% still pulling the strings of the puppets, and now we get nothing but the second amendment shit and we get another 9,000 deaths next year and nothing happens--what the fuck is WRONG with this picture.

60 minutes has turned into a venu of what? Finding out the social media of the rich and powerful-what happened to the feedback segment they used to have.
CNN Crossfire was joke, we the public should have aked the question.
MSNBC starts at 6:00 in the morning and we get to hear from a former congressman that had shit happen in his office, thats great credibility.
CBS has turned into another Fox news and we have the host of Face the Nation having more republicans you can count on there, than the people who really see what is tearing the fabric of this country apart, but nope every other week we get one John McCain who talks out of both sides of his mouth whenever he feel like he his like Mitch McConnell more Psycho Paths talking to another Psycho Path.
ABC had Stossel and is rant along with Brit Hume, there now there over at Fox--oh boy.
NBC has David Gregory who likes to make a throw soft snow balls and spew more right wing rant of shit, and then to have the NRA mouth piece on there and ask what there stance is on gun violence --duh--- more guns dumb shit, that was informative information of more babble from the paraniod go figure.
Then there is what was once called by Keith Obermann, remember him, "FIX News", its like the other news outlets and all we see is more paraniod of the delusion, I don't know why but just maybe FIX NEWs is like the movie name of Dumb and Dumber everyday.
Then to top it all off we have the paranoid fanatics in Congress and the Senate doing what--nothing, they also think that this represented government is the bad guy.

This wingnut's rants should be the lead story on every newscast and in every newspaper. The fact that this obscenely powerful organization is led by someone this batshit crazy should be exposed, analyzed and digested fully and completely.
Will the mainstream media do its job? One would think so. I sure as hell hope so.
Will I bet the mortgage on it?
Nope.
The NRA has gotten away with so much bullshit over the decades, nothing would surprise me.

because he stated that the armed guard in school is not mandatory. Some schools already have armed guards and he did not offer a way to pay for the guards, so what has he really said is:

You can do what you can already do if you pay for it yourself and I think it would be effective regardless of the evidence to the contrary.

Now that's a phony proposal.
