Questions raised over Trump profiting off his Secret Service detail while he campaigns

..............
In 2022, NBC News reported that a House investigative report showed that the former president was charging as much as $1,185 per night for agents to stay in his hotels, "more than five times the recommended government rate."
On Sunday, Forbes reported now there are now questions about airfare charges for his government-supplied security detail with over $800,000 paid by taxpayers this election cycle and another $361,000 still owed.
According to Zach Everson of Forbes, "New filings raise the question of whether Trump is also using his campaign to convert Secret Service funds into business revenue."
He went on to note that the biggest recipient of air travel reimbursements is to Tag Air which is solely owned by Trump.
............................. But no candidate has charged as much to the Secret Service as Trump, whose three presidential campaigns have collected a combined $10.1 million from the agency tasked with protecting him."....................

(2,571 posts)he should ONLY get the standard rate, OR no special security at all. His detail was confiscating kazoos & rubber chickens last evening. Just let the various jails in jurisdictions where he has been indicted handle his safety.

(23,254 posts)But I'm more worried about the voting block than their candidates.
"People are starting to recognize people who are smart that we are the most powerful voting bloc in the country, and we have the political power right now," McArdle* said. "What Libertarians and independent voters do is going to shape the election in 2024."

(9,133 posts)During his occupation of the White House, he would go down to Mar A Lago a couple or three days? every two weeks?
All of his SS Detail stayed in rooms at MAL while guarding him. I can't remember what he was charging them, but the nightly rate was ludicrous. Evidently that wasn't enough for the Human Cockroach.......He changed the Hotel Policy, and only rented THEIR rooms by the month, at 30/31 times the nightly rate he had been charging them......
There was so much corrupt grifting, it is nauseating..........
Not sure of which resort it was, but the Government ordered all new Golf Carts, on the premise the present ones weren't fast enough.
I can't remember if they had to do that at all his golf resorts he had to visit.
I don't think people begin to know how much his constant, almost weekly, AirForceOne joy rides were costing the nation. His admin was reporting, when questioned, that the cost on each trip was around 180K...........They probably only counted the cost of the Fuel to get that figure..........The actual cost of every trip on AFOne is probably somewhere in the 15-30 Million dollar range for each trip.....Seriously.......
FIFTEEN TO THIRTY MILLION DOLLAR RANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is one thing if a President goes on legitimate National business trips or even a vacation trip once or twice a year. His use of AFOne was way way way over that number of trips to the point of being ludicrous.
And don't forget all the continuous travel expenses, and SS costs, for all his spawn and Jared to "jet set" everywhere also!!!!! Including ones all over the world for pleasure, hunting, etc etc etc........
I don't think most taxpayers realize all of the associated, massive expenses, that go into just one trip......It is mind boggling!!!!!!

(36,828 posts)Then he'd stay at his resort w/SS detail & charge them full rate so he could golf. Remember when he said he'd never have time to golf cuz he'd be so busy working?

(9,133 posts)The hours of preparation including the "Advance Team".......The huge military transports that have to transport the "Beast" and all the other vehicles used in transporting him from the airport to the location...And all need to be taken back at the end of his day of golfing.
The cost of Local Police, paramedics, etc etc (which he refused to pay)
All of that and if you want to carry it further, how about the airlines fuel expense to stay in a"hold" pattern outside his departure airport, his arrival airport, and and along the entire air corridor along his flight path......
Also, although rarely shown, are the fighter aircraft that accompany the plane throughout the flight........And if he needs to make use of MarineOne, the helicopter he rides in, they fold up the blades and load the helicopter onboard one of the largest military transport airplanes. Sometimes they use THREE identical Marine One Helicopters.....two to serve as Decoys so terrorists won't know which one actually has the President on-board. There are several special planes in the air that accompany him.....a Communications one?, and one defensive radar plane?????
I doubt that very many know the thoroughness, and all the multitude of facets, of all of the President's protection.
A close friend of mine got sucked into working around the clock with the SS the entire time Obama was in Denver. Did he ever have stories to tell about the arrival, around the clock needs when Obama was here, and all the way up to his departure.......
With Trump, it was a huge logistical nightmare, every few weeks, getting him to some location and back, to basically golf for the day.......
At least with Reagan and WBush, they would spend a lot of time off at their ranches, but they would stay there a week or two at a time.....

(3,677 posts)Trump and all other former presidents should be allocated a set yearly amount for their security. Once that amount is exceeded their protection should be terminated and security services should be paid for by the former president. Griff all you want then charge as much as you want too it would no longer be a problem to the tax payers of the U.S.

Old orange slime can not do anything about it.
And if the slime goes down, so much better for the world at large.

(23,254 posts)In 1965, Congress authorized the Secret Service (Public Law 89-186) to protect a former president and his/her spouse during their lifetime, unless they decline protection.
Title 18 U.S.C.' 3056(a)(7) authorizes the U.S. Secret Service to provide protection for major Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates:
Protection is authorized by the DHS Secretary after consultation with the Congressional Advisory Committee;
The Congressional Advisory Committee includes: Speaker of the House, House Minority Leader, Senate Majority Leader, Senate Minority Leader, and one additional member selected by the others;
Protection under these guidelines should only be granted within one year prior to the general election. Protection more than one year prior to the general election should only be granted in extraordinary, case by case circumstances in consultation with the committee, based on threat assessment and other factors.
Doesn't seem to mention that "under The Sitting President's control" detail. Unless you can find it.

(14,830 posts)... and certainly a misappropriation of tax payer funded government resources.
What has the Orange Fuhrer deemed his Secret Service his private goon squad who protects and defends Shitler's infantile fee-fees from the squawk of rubber chickens. So that they must be confiscated to protect "The Dawnald" from any insults by the crowd at his speeches ?
What's next - will the Secret Service shoot anyone dead if they have the audacity to boo his majesty Shitler at political events or Nazi Rallies ?
Talk about Fascism on full parade.

(24,385 posts)...Trump has done while in office, and since leaving it, charging the Secret Service to stay in his damn hotels is one of the ones that pisses me off the most. He should let them stay for free.
It is immoral.
