Buttigieg calls out Boebert over infrastructure post

Transportation Sec. Pete Buttigieg called out Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) on Wednesday for taking credit for securing federal funding for a bridge in her district when, in fact, she voted against the bipartisan infrastructure bill that funded the project.
Great meeting with Glenwood Springs City Councilor and former Mayor Jonathan Godes, Boebert posted on X, attaching a photo with the city councilor. We have secured over $51.4 million for the South Bridge, Boebert continued, saying she was thrilled to hear about nearly $30 million in costs savings in addition and that my support has helped make this project a reality.
Buttigieg fired back and pressed Boebert to elaborate on her support. Congresswoman, in what way do you believe that your support helped this project? Buttigieg said on X Wednesday, reposting Boeberts original post. We chose it because its a good project, and funded it using President Bidens infrastructure package, which you voted against, he added.
The official White House account on X similarly highlighted Boeberts post and wrote, One thing about Congressional Republicans
theyre going to take credit for investments they voted against. The Hill has reached out to Boebert for comment.

Boebert hasnt secured 51.4 million dollars for this bridge. The money came from a Biden-Harris grant that is part of the Rural Surface Transportation Grant Program, which itself is a part of theInfrastructure Investment and Jobs Act which Boebert voted against.

(10,535 posts)How many of the voters in Boeberts district are even on X to see how she lies to them? The recent polls showing that a majority of people think the US is in a recession are dismaying and indicate that messages about the real economic successes and infrastructure investment are not getting through to people. People choose to watch the news media that reinforces their beliefs, and Fox is still watched by more people than any other network. If we cant counter some of their disinformation and lies, we may be in big trouble.

(131,936 posts)ALL federal agencies began a communications migration to "social media" back in the mid-late 2000s (and I remember when my agency did it), and used Facebook & Twitter to supplement their web presence. This was something promoted by then-President Barack Obama and I know my agency went through various procedural steps and SOPs to determine how to best use it (and it took quite a bit of time).
Most governmental entities (beyond the federal government) have used it to quickly get info out to the public (where the "tweets" were picked up by local news orgs), and that even includes entities like local fire and police and Emergency Management officials in municipalities, counties, and at the state level. It offered the "immediacy" that broadcast media could not or would not offer (where there was often push-back on "interrupting" their entertainment programming or sports), and in fact, the print media (and even broadcast media) use these notifications to write their copy.
That is how THIS article got written.
Just this morning, my local NWS office fired off various notifications about a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for an isolated thunderstorm cell that had just scraped past where I live and was moving east into other areas of Philly headed for NJ. I got the NOAA Weather siren alert on my weather radio, but they also have a whole format to send out Warnings via X (twitter) -

They use very specific template (and criteria for use) to format their notification blasts using that application and it probably took months and months to draft and finalize.
So when an idiot like Musk buys one of these social media applications and then proceeds to trash it, it means that these governmental bodies will have to (and probably already had to) discuss how to handle that and whether to consider moving to a different platform as the use of the application is now being hindered by a number of factors impacted by the buyout.
But that will take time because they have to research alternatives, then select some to pilot test, get approval from far above for use of the selected app, and then come up with new Standards of Procedure/Guidelines to implement, etc.
I have noticed that some are slowly testing out Threads, which is associated with Meta (Zuckerberg) and its Instagram (and obviously Facebook), so that may ultimately end up being the replacement at some point in the furure.

(131,936 posts)but the distributed nature of it would probably be too complicated to deal with based on how the government establishes their SOPs for use of software apps. Plus they are trying to reach a broad audience, so if "most" of the major media haven't joined the same instance(s), then it defeats the purpose by having to manage too many multiple social app presences.
But another big issue is enterprise support for such, i.e., like how Red Hat linux forked off years ago to have an enterprise distro for servers/clients and offered paid commercial support. Doing that moved some feds into that space for some of their systems.

Regardless, the Trump voters, especially in the Rural areas, listen exclusively only to Fox News and Right Wing AM Radio.....
Psychiatrists have stated that listening to Fox & RW radio exclusively will cause the listeners to be basically "brainwashed". And that goes a long ways to explaining why even the most absurd claims by the Republicans are taken for truth in their minds.....
Even back in the Korean War, the Nor-Coms would subject our military's POW's to Massive night and day Extreme Indoctrination......and the phenomenon of "Brain Washing" was first recognized and documented..............
