Republicans Ted Cruz and Katie Britt introduce bill to protect IVF access

Source: CBS News

Washington — Two Senate Republicans on Monday introduced legislation to protect access to in vitro fertilization, known as IVF, after a Democratic-led effort to do so failed earlier this year in the upper chamber. The bill, titled the IVF Protection Act, was introduced by Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and Sen. Katie Britt of Alabama.

It seeks to safeguard IVF nationwide by banning states from receiving Medicaid funding if they enact an outright ban on the fertility procedure. The bill defines IVF as "eggs are collected from ovaries and manually fertilized by sperm, for later placement inside of a uterus."

It would not force any individual or organization to provide IVF services, nor would it prevent states from implementing health and safety measures within clinics that provide such services.

"IVF has given miraculous hope to millions of Americans, and it has given families across the country the gift of children," Cruz said in a statement Monday. Britt said in a statement that the procedure is "pro-family" and that legislation "affirms both life and liberty."

Doctors were questioning, "When, how, do I treat potential life threatening procedures". One woman was denied, went home and brought back a sample of discolored amniotic fluid.

what about all of those embryos that are destroyed during the ivf process? So, which is it? Does life begin at conception only after sexual intercourse? I'm confused. What's their position now?

For white supremacists, IVF terminations in the service of potentially increasing their relative birth rate is acceptable mass murder. It is a sacrifice toward the greater goal of concentrating political power.

Pro life has always been a hypocrisy. If the right had their druthers, abortion would be prohibited for some and mandatory for others.

From folks who actually read the bill: it doesn’t specifically protect anything at all. It’s basically concern trolling with zero legislative impact.

It’s a head fake from 2 of the weirdest, least likable senators. And CBS got duped.

But the "news" is that they introduced a bill, regardless of what bullshit is indicated to characterize it. And we know it will be DOA if even considered within the Senate.

Reading between the lines, it exempts Catholic hospitals from the procedure. However, Catholic hospitals have always been exempt from all reproductive services (No tube tying, no IVF, no BC pills etc)
