G7 Push to Use Russian Assets for Ukraine 'Vital and Urgent': Yellen

Source: Kyiv Post

It is "vital and urgent" for the United States and allies to find a way to tap immobilized Russian assets in helping Ukraine, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in prepared remarks released Monday.

The excerpts of her speech, to be delivered Tuesday in Frankfurt, come as finance leaders of the Group of Seven industrialized nations are due to gather later this week.

G7 allies are warming to a US plan that can raise around $50 billion for Ukraine, the Financial Times reported on Monday.

The plan involves a G7 loan backed by future profits from around $350 billion of Russian assets that were immobilized after Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, the report added.

Do it, just do it already. If I could, the entire $350 billion would be confiscated and delivered into Ukraine's account. That Fascist ruscist needs to feel the pain. He's still killing pregnant women and walks around with that evil smirk. The orcs in the Kremlin are vile and pure evil. I can't really say what I would like to say. It would be a four letter rant the likes the world has never witnessed.

The world doesn't know what to do with him or how to handle him.

Just like with Trump in the US.

I think he's channeling Stalin - and TFG admires him since he has complete control and there's no one to stop him.

Putin not only wants to reinstate the old USSR, he wants to be a global superpower along with China.
And to bring down the world's democratic countries in the process.

Yes Trump and the GOP want what Putin has. Total permanent power and no one stopping them.

That's why it's essential that we stand by Ukraine. And now we hear that there are protests in Georgia. I was there when it was still Soviet Georgia and the hate towards Russia was palpable, different language, different customs, more Middle Eastern than Russian. And of course they had to conform. There were a lot of statues of Stalin in Georgia which baffled me since he was out of favor at the time (under Gorbachev who instituted more progressive policies), so I asked - and I was told that Stalin was Georgian, not Russian, and was held in high esteem since he killed so many Russians. And I'm sure that Putin aspires to take over Georgia again, too.

Then other European countries.
And other Pacific islands.

Yes Putin thought Ukraine would be a quick slam dunk.
Just like China thought about Taiwan.

That is interesting about Georgia.
Yes Putin will have eyes for Georgia too.

The world seems to take its time dealing with evil.
Lets it go unchecked for too long.

My grandmother joined a peace group that had a "sister town" there and asked me to join them on their initial visit in the later '80s. There were statues and plaques everywhere, dedicated to peace since they had such a horrific time during WWII fought on their own land. There were also small museums, even in the schools, to teach the children the history of what they had been through so it would never happen again. I still remember one older lady who had been a nurse during WWII who said "when you go back, please tell your president that we want peace."

And of course the president was Reagan who was extremely tough on Gorbachev ("Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" ) which made it more difficult for him since it resulted in the Russian hardliners forcing Gorbachev to cut back on his progressive policies (glasnost and perestroika, openness and economic restructuring). Reagan was not popular there among the people. But they continued to admire President Carter (as our group did).

Seems to be the human condition.

Russia and China are shifting the world power structure to their favor.
And they will apparently use any means to do to it.

Very sad.

I don't think they have to destroy the world to achieve world power.
There are easier ways to do it.

But they love the death, chaos and destruction.
That is the fun part for them.

Interesting that Reagan being so ham fisted with Russia caused the collapse of reasonable
Russian leadership. The GOP needs enemies.
