Jeffries calls on Alito to apologize for 'disrespecting' American flag

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) called on Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito Friday to apologize for “disrespecting” the American flag.

“Samuel Alito should apologize immediately for disrespecting the American flag and sympathizing with right-wing violent insurrectionists,” Jeffries said in a statement in a press release Friday.

“He must recuse himself from cases involving the 2020 election and [former President Trump,]” the New York Democrat continued in the statement. ”Congress should immediately consider legislation to impose an ethical code of conduct on a runaway Supreme Court. The Constitution demands and the American people deserve more from a justice serving on the highest court in the land than baseless election denial.”

Jeffries’ statement follows a Thursday report from The New York Times about an upside-down American flag that was flown at Alito’s Alexandria, Va., home in January 2021. The upside-down American flag is a symbol connected to the “Stop the Steal” efforts that have a basis in inaccurate claims of election fraud.

But I think what people are missing here regarding what is coming from a newly emboldened Democratic leadership, is that they are pointing out and magnifying the hypocrisy of the GOP.

I.e., the GOP mantra - which includes calling themselves "patriots" and attacking protestors who would burn the flag, while they were making clothing from them, or walking on them like Shrub did years ago, while people like Stupidfuckidous were whining about why Obama didn't wear a flag pin to a debate, and then feigning a lack of any awareness of what else "Freedom of Speech" covers, is what is being highlighted.



Why some DUers miss this is beyond me.

Since these same asshats used to use the Gaston Flag at their events, let along some version of the Confederate Flag, having no real understanding of history, then I suppose this is something "different".

It would have meant more if we'd been told about the Alitos' flag back in January 2021, when it HAPPENED.
It's kind of hard to get worked up to an outrage about it now. (Why did the NYT wait 3 years?)

He's done so much more damage to the country since then anyway.

He has been in there almost 20 years and doesn't care. No one would be able to impeach and remove him anyway. It would have been a distraction from what was eventually uncovered to be a sophisticated, multi-tiered plot to overthrow the government, and by then, he had 3 more loons to join him in his quest to reverse Roe v. Wade.
