President Biden to deliver 140th commencement at Morehouse, where he will receive an honorary doctorate

President Joe Biden is scheduled to deliver Morehouse College's 140th commencement in Atlanta, Ga. on Sunday May 19th.

The president has spoken before students, staff and faculty at the historically Black college before, including when he was vice president in 2015, when he went to raise awareness for sexual assault on college campuses.

But this time, the president's address comes as campuses across the United States have contended with student bodies and activists displeased with his handling of the war between Israel and Hamas and the mounting civilian casualties amid the military onslaught in Gaza. The campus protests included calls for Morehouse administration officials to cancel the president's commencement visit.

Morehouse College confirmed President Biden's visit in late April, and hasn't made any changes to that plan. The university said it will also honor a list of notable alumni anniversaries during the commencement including for activist Martin Luther King III, who graduated in 1979; for award-winning producer and director Spike Lee, who also graduated in 1979; and for acclaimed actor Brian Tyree Henry, who graduated in 1999.

1. Morehouse is men-only. I really wish he were speaking at an HBCU that included women...

Black women have been an important backbone of support for Biden and might be an important factor conceivably limiting any OTT protests, (IMO). That said, I have to think Morehouse would not bring Biden in if they thought things might get out of control so perhaps there are only a few that might pose a concern.

3. Oh stop it. I said nothing of the kind. Shame on you for attacking every word anyone else posts.

and yes, it appears to be a pattern with you. Rather than civilly asking for clarification of the point being made, you attack the post--and by extension, the poster, while clearly not understanding what is being said and why.You are on a board specifically inclusive of Biden supporters so to accuse others of being otherwise (or supposedly less so than YOU) is not only ludicrous but beyond inappropriate. Just STOP IT!

4. Actually, that's wrong. I never accused anyone of not being a Biden-supporter *

* but it's easy to see that there's a lot of passive-aggressive nitpicking "criticism" (from his supporters, no less) about nearly everything Biden does. It's careless, and I think we can do better. That's all.

I did not need "clarification," because the post I was responding to was quite clear. I did understand the "point" that was being made and I took exception to it. I made no "attack" on anyone. I never made any "accusations" that someone was less-than-me or that somehow I'm better-than-others. Also, the notion that my challenging the post is somehow an "attack by extension" of the poster, is absurd.

You clearly said that you wished Biden was doing something OTHER than what he was planning on doing. That was direct and to the point. There was no nuanced meaning that I overlooked. That was why I wanted to gently point out that these types of hypercritical comments about Joe Biden (and often the Democratic party too) are unnecessary.

Frankly, I can't think of any good reason that anyone would want to go to such great effort to find minor problems and imperfections — particularly at this critical juncture. It's exasperating.

I think we can all agree things like this are unhelpful. That's fair, right? I hope you can see where I'm coming from.

But the useless and negative chiding, living within its own defitnions, was alive and well.

There was neither rudeness nor insult. If someone as slow and dense as I can clearly see your point, I tend to believe any asserted misintepretation is willful and in bad faith.
