R.F.K. Jr. Says Doctors Found a Dead Worm in His Brain

Source: NYT
While packing for the trip, he said, he received a call from a doctor at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital who had a different opinion: Mr. Kennedy, he believed, had a dead parasite in his head.
The doctor believed that the abnormality seen on his scans “was caused by a worm that got into my brain and ate a portion of it and then died,” Mr. Kennedy said in the deposition.
Now an independent presidential candidate, the 70-year-old Mr. Kennedy has portrayed his athleticism and relative youth as an advantage over the two oldest people to ever seek the White House: President Biden, 81, and former President Donald J. Trump, 77. Mr. Kennedy has secured a place on the ballots in Utah, Michigan, Hawaii and, his campaign says, California and Delaware. His intensive efforts to gain access in more states could put him in a position to tip the election.
...
About the same time he learned of the parasite, he said, he was also diagnosed with mercury poisoning, most likely from ingesting too much fish containing the dangerous heavy metal, which can cause serious neurological issues.
“I have cognitive problems, clearly,” he said in the 2012 deposition. “I have short-term memory loss, and I have longer-term memory loss that affects me.”

(9,606 posts)“Across the globe, many cat owners pick up a pet-linked parasite without ever knowing. In the United States alone, more than 40 million Americans are infected with Toxoplasma gondii — a brain parasite that's spread by eating undercooked, contaminated meat, drinking contaminated water, and yes, accidentally swallowing a bit of cat poop.
The parasite is one of the most common parasites on Earth, infecting up to a third of the world population. As of now, there's no way to tell exactly which route of transmission is how one individual becomes infected.
But we are getting closer to understanding why most infections don't result in symptoms (in rare cases, it can cause lasting damage). In a recent study, scientists discovered the immune cells that run crucial interference between Toxoplasma gondii and the brain. https://www.inverse.com/mind-body/cat-brain-parasite-immune-system

A Florida man suffering from persistent migraines was found to have festering tapeworm eggs in his brain, according to a report published in the American Journal of Case Reports.
Known as neurocysticercosis, the condition is very rare in the United States.
"It is historically very unusual to encounter infected pork in the United States," researchers wrote. "Our case may have public health implications."

(2,536 posts)Thankfully I have never been truly hungry. But hunger was a real issue for my family members in my Grandparents' time. And very many of their grandparents actually starved (or more truthfully were starved) to death. When you are starving almost anyone will eat anything. And, genocide aside, much of humanity lived precariously close to great hunger much of the time.

I don't know how long RFK Jr abused drugs, but in my experience, the former addict never gets those years back in terms of brain development. (45,730 posts)Anti-vaccine activist RFK Jr said he also suffered mercury poisoning from eating too much fish: ‘I loved tuna fish sandwiches. I ate them all the time’

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/rfk-jr-dead-worm-brain-b2541521.html
Mr Kennedy testified that the doctor had told him that the dark spot on the scans “was caused by a worm that got into my brain and ate a portion of it and then died”.
He also said in his 2012 deposition that he has suffered from mercury poisoning that has caused neurological issues.
“I have cognitive problems, clearly,” he said at the time. “I have short-term memory loss, and I have longer-term memory loss that affects me.”
RFK Jr, the son of late New York senator and attorney general Robert F Kennedy, told the Times in an interview that the poisoning was caused by eating too much fish.
“I loved tuna fish sandwiches. I ate them all the time,” he said.
The admission raises questions about RFK Jr’s health at a time when the 70-year-old environmental lawyer and long-shot presidential hopeful has used his relative youth compared to his major-party rivals, President Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump, to argue that he is healthier and fitter than both to run the country.

That's a terrible thing to happen to anyone. But that doesn't mean he is capable to hold the office. He brought it up and I admire his courage to discuss such a thing. It's really no fodder for comedians. It's not funny.
I really hate what's happened to Neom and Cricket. We've taken a serious example of animal cruelty and turned it into a joke. Because of this joke status, if Neom had only kept low and didn't do interviews this would blown away. But making it a joke like we have, has turned it into a sort of normal that voters will over time will begin to overlook. Keep the issue up - animal cruelty is a real issue, and something I'd really like to know about someone. But it is no joke. Psychopaths start out on animals and just because they don't move on to humans doesn't mean they aren't psychopaths anymore.
And just because someone has brain damage and admits to it doesn't mean the damage will have no effect on his abilities to carry out the duties of an elected office. And we need to discuss it and not make fun of it.

Some of the higher order functions, like logical reasoning and deductive skills may never return.
And RFK Jr shows plenty of signs that he can do 1+ 1 = 3.
He needs to be in a safe place where his 1 + 1 =3 can't harm anyone. And the Oval Office isn't that place.

Someone's BBQ gone bad.
Sad to hear that, as for the mercury poisoning, he needed to have been eating canned tuna sammies almost every day during the 50's through the 70's to get that much poisoning. I had a lot of canned tuna (as did my parents) during the 60's and 70's and it didn't affect me a quarter as much as the leaded gasoline in all the cars probably did. Peanut butter, canned tuna corned beef hash, and deviled ham/deviled chicken were the survival proteins when one was poor growing up. Could always find canned meat and veggies in the dinged can/expiration date bins around 2 for a nickel (not the PB).
