(7,819 posts)It's residential. It looks a lot like the neighborhood I grew up in.
It wasn't somebody shooting up a commercial building, their workplace, or a school. It was probably personal (imnsho).
Edited 20 minutes later: apparently the shooter was being served a warrant and decided to "refuse the delivery."

And he didn't seem to be happy to be found.

It will be interesting to find out what flavor of lunatic this is.
Looks like a decent area, houses in the 300=420K range,
(Odd how I can remember TV call letters from a lot of places I've been, memory is weird)

Seriously, though, prices in the RDU area start around there. We have people moving here from the West Coast who think that housing prices here are cheap - compared to there, I guess they are - and they pay asking prices, or more for houses in established neighborhoods, thereby driving up prices and making housing unaffordable for everyone else.
Price creep has even hit my hometown, a college town in the eastern part of the state. New(er), two bedroom apartments rent for $1500-1700, which is what youd pay in the RDU area. Four years ago, that same apartment back home would have rented for about $1000, give or take.

(111,528 posts)but that will hinge on getting the clowns out of it in the next election. Hedge funds and other institutional investors don't belong in things like housing, municipal services, emergency rooms.
I used to get two or three "we pay cash for houses" when I lived in my own home and that's in a cruddy neighborhood in New Mexico, where house prices have crept up slightly but that's all.
I moved here from Boston, where prices are particularly insane. It was the only place I lived that ever felt like home. When I start to miss it too much, I consult Zillow and look at rents in my old neighborhood. I get over it fast.
I had forgotten about the investment companies. 60 minutes did a thing on them a while back. Disappointing because they never challenged the assholes assertion that he was making home ownership more affordable. Can you believe that shit?

Right now, there are too few assholes with too much money chasing far too few actual investments. They're trying to gobble everything up. Fortunately, most of them are now over leveraged and debt is whatt eventually wipes the lot of them out.
The problem is that in the short term they will take everything with them. If we're still saddled with Republicans and neoliberal Democrats (whose numbers are fewer now than 25 years ago), government will take too long to act and it will be a total mess.

(95,157 posts)A total of eight law enforcement officers were shot during the incident, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings said at a Monday evening news conference.
The shooting unfolded in the 5000 block of Galway Drive as members of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force were serving a warrant for possession of firearm by a convicted felon, Jennings said.
The officers were met with gunfire from a high-powered rifle and returned fire, fatally shooting a suspect in the front yard of the house. Jennings said the US Marshals had been serving the warrant to that suspect.
