Trump campaign says it will deploy thousands of election workers to monitor poll sites

Former President Donald Trumps political operation said Thursday that it plans to deploy more than 100,000 attorneys and volunteers across battleground states to monitor and potentially challenge vote counting in November. The initiative which the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee described as the most extensive and monumental election integrity program in the nations history will include training poll watchers and workers as well as lawyers.
The program underscores Trumps ongoing fixation with election security, which he deployed in an attempt to undermine the results of the 2020 election despite the widespread conclusion, even among Republican officials, that there was no widespread fraud. Trump has warned supporters, without evidence, that Democrats could try to rig the 2024 election. Trump made the same false claims about the 2020 election, which he unsuccessfully tried to overturn.
Trump has privately complained that his political apparatus was not adequately prepared for the legal battles in the 2020 election. He has made clear to advisers that he would like a more robust effort to be able to challenge election results as needed. Its also a sign that, should Trump once again attempt to overturn the election, he will already have in place tens of thousands of workers who could help with that effort.
In a statement, Trump said, Having the right people to count the ballots is just as important as turning out voters on Election Day. According to the announcement, the Trump operation plans to deploy lawyers to monitor voter machine testing, early voting, election day voting, mail ballot processing and post-election canvassing, auditing and recounts. The campaign also plans to station lawyers at mail-in voting processing centers and set up a hotline that poll watchers and voters can use to report problems.

(43,257 posts)Will courts hold as well as in 2020? Watchers to watch the watchers are needed. District and State AGs should be gearing up. Keep these loons out of polling places. Their only purpose is corruption of the ballot box.

Two weeks etc.
Remember that Jason Miller is running this show based mostly on groveling fealty and sycophantic obedience. Imagine him needing to report SOMETHING to Trump so he comes up with this grand beautiful plan. Consider too that his boss has the attention span of a squirrel and if such a plan really exists, Trump can alter everything on a whim.

(129,356 posts)and the campaign has taken over "the party" (RNC), then they mean "party officials/workers". I.e., parties are permitted to have "observers", etc. at polling locations as long as they don't interfere with the process.

(182,868 posts)Insiders Explain How Mitt Romney's Campaign Completely Fell Apart On Election Day
A major source of Romney's GOTV problems appears to have been the disastrous Project ORCA, an expensive technological undertaking that was supposed to provide the campaign with real-time poll monitoring that would allow Republicans to target GOTV efforts on Election Day.
But on almost all counts, ORCA failed miserably. In a fascinating piece for Ace of Spades, Romney poll-watcher John Ekdahl describes a perfect storm of technology problems that made the ORCA app unusable and left scores of Republican volunteers "wandering around confused and frustrated" on Election Day.
littlemissmartypants
(22,733 posts)Less money for actual campaigns and more money paying the lawyers, etc. I'm all for them creating major distractions and razor thin resources.
Plus, I'm pretty sure egos are going to clash and volunteers will want to be paid. I see the whole thing tanking spectacularly, not unlike Romney's plan.
They're going to be just like the gang that couldn't shoot straight, the movie* and the concept.

(18,640 posts)Trump doesn't need lily white suburban polls "monitored". Enough of them will carry him.
He needs these slovenly "volunteers" in Watts, Hough, East LA, and Selma, places where unarmed republicans fear to tread, let alone attempt to intimidate.
Once a volunteer gets his assignment there would be a huge drop out rate.

(220 posts)They have little or no money as the orange POS has hoovered it all. Lawyers will do some pro bono, but still have to pay the bills. If there is no money don't expect the best to show up. And, the volunteers will be trailer trash at best, ignorant and uneducated, even the ones who graduated college.

IMO by the time we arrive at election day the GOP will be so poorly funded, due to tRump's larceny and legal costs, they'll be lucky to pay for postage. This time around he has divided and decimated GOP rank and file beyond the capacity to produce the show of force his rhetoric envisions.
And as we know from past experience, Everything he says is a LIE.
