Fire at Bernie Sanders' Vermont office investigated as arson

A fire at Sen. Bernie Sanders' Vermont office is being investigated as arson, the Burlington Fire Department said Friday.

Firefighters were dispatched Friday morning to the building that houses the independent senator's only congressional office in the state. They found "a fire in the vestibule between the elevator and the entrance door to [Sanders'] office," the fire department said in a news release.

Police in Burlington said "an unknown male subject entered the vestibule" of Sanders' office and then "sprayed an apparent accelerant on the entrance door." "He then lit the accelerant and fled," the police statement said. It also said that a "significant fire engulfed the door and part of the vestibule, impeding the egress of staff members who were working in the office and endangering their lives."

There were no reported injuries. The door to Sanders' office was damaged by the fire and other parts of the building had water damage. The suspect has not been apprehended, and there is no known motive, according to police.

So this is about within a half mile from where those three Palestinian students were shot in November. Burlington's a great place, but it's not without its crackpots.

where the brother of one of my in-law uncles had a houseboat docked at Lake Champlain. The bass fishing was awesome!

I don't think I ever saw houseboats on the lake. Possibly because the winter conditions including the lake freezing over. I wonder if it required a little more work and maintenance.
I do have a friend who went ice fishing with family on a chunk of lake that broke off and took them for a little unexpected cruise. They had to be rescued by the coast guard.

What was wild was that all you needed to do was put a little ball of bread on the hook and a billion bass just swarmed it! Guaranteed catches! We just thew them back in.

My aunt and uncle lived in NH so we were up in the area very summer. We had gone up there that year to visit Montreal and eventually saw what was left of the "Man and his World" exhibit there (the successor to Expo67, where it was re-done in successive years around when we went and after).

to the TV ad jingle for Man and His World. Like your visit, by the time I saw it, it was just remnants.

Most if not all the fishing I did as a kid was on Shelburne Pond (grew up in Shelburne from the age of 12-19, left VT in '91), Never caught a bass, but hooked plenty of perch. I do remember my dad coming back with some nice bass hauls from the lake though.
