Congressman presses Elon Musk to provide SpaceX satellite services for US defense forces in Taiwan, report says

Elon Musk is facing pressure to provide SpaceX's Starshield satellite network to US defense personnel in Taiwan, according to Forbes. Wisconsin GOP Rep. Mike Gallagher, in a letter to Musk first obtained by the outlet, reiterated to the businessman that SpaceX had a contractual commitment to give the US Defense Department the ability to use its satellite communications service.

It is unclear if other members of Congress also signed on to the letter, which was dated February 24, Forbes reported. However, the outlet described a "group of US lawmakers" were involved in the calls for Musk to provide satellite access to US defense forces in Taiwan. The Wall Street Journal, which later reported on the letter, only noted Gallagher's involvement in writing the correspondence.

In the letter, Gallagher, the chair of the House select committee on the Chinese Communist Party, said the DoD is appropriating "tens of millions of dollars" for Starshield, which was designed for government use and utilizes satellites in low-Earth orbit to transmit imagery to military agencies.

The Starshield satellites, designed specifically for national security customers, provide essential internet access in remote locations or those impacted by natural disasters or war zones and have become crucial to Ukraine's battle against invading Russian forces. "I understand that SpaceX is possibly withholding broadband internet services in and around Taiwan — possibly in breach of SpaceX's contractual obligations with the US government," Gallagher wrote in the letter, per Forbes.

And tax benefits and perks?

There is no free lunch, Musk has to play ball with the US.

Musk is a madman, why would the military give this crazy guy that kind of control, he has shown to be another Putin lover. A fox to guard the chicken coop.

Think. Again.

So yeah, chances are good this is an attempt to give putin a direct line, through musk, into our military communications.

4. There would be no SpaceX without US Government contracts for Musk the Man Baby.

Per a Quartz article:

https://qz.com/elon-musk-spacex-us-contracts-defense-intelligence-1851270073

"Elon Musk’s company SpaceX reportedly has a $1.8 billion classified contract with an unnamed U.S. government agency, expanding its work with American intelligence and defense agencies.

Documents reported by The Wall Street Journal show the contract will eventually become a major part of the company’s revenue. SpaceX did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday morning."

Think. Again.

I suspect this republican congressperson has some anti-American reason of his own for sending our military stuff through musk first, but is it really a good idea?

7. Why are we reliant on a "private" company...

...for US Military communications?

Especially when it's owner has proven himself to be an unreliable scammer and often opposed to US interests by being in the pocket of China and Russia?

Seize his company, pay him off, and boot his traitorous ass back to South Africa, Saudi Arabia, China or wherever.

Because Elon doesn't give a tinker's turd about the US, about Taiwan, or about Congress.

Our capitalist system has given this man (and others) too much power and, as always, too much power corrupts.

The time to stop these mega-billionaires is before they become mega-billionaires, and the same goes for mega-corporations.

We used to have limits on power. Taxing excessive income, outlawing monopolies, fostering a spirit of competition and innovation by not allowing entities to dominate commerce and wealth

Now we not only allow this concentration of power (wealth), we subsidize it with the taxes of working people.
