Rep. Rashida Tlaib urges Michigan Democrats to vote against Biden in the primary

Source: NBC News

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., is urging Democrats in Dearborn, Michigan, to vote against President Joe Biden in the state's upcoming Democratic primary.

“If you want us to be louder, then come here and vote uncommitted,” Tlaib said in a new video posted to social media on Saturday while standing outside an early voting location.

She joined growing calls from progressive activists in Michigan to vote “uncommitted” in the state's Democratic presidential primary on Feb. 27 instead of voting for Biden.

The video of Tlaib was posted to the X account of “Listen to Michigan,” a group urging voters to vote “uncommitted” in the primary.

It's a fine line for Biden to walk, but if we stopped supporting Israel, we would have no leverage over them. She's entitled to her opinion, and many of her constituents may think the same way she does, but this is not a smart political stunt.

depending on his whims. Making it about Biden personally, same way Obama and Hillary were fictionalized as bloodthirsty warmongers so don't vote. This is my problem understanding.

Tlaib says, "Right now, we feel completely neglected, just unseen by our own government." As if the Biden administration and all Democratic administrations aren't doing all they can to resolve this and other situations. Both sides. Feelings aren't facts. It's protesting something that doesn't exist.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that the Biden administration will negotiate some sort of ceasefire but it won't make any difference. There will still be "Genocide Joe" protests and urges not to vote for him because "feelings." As usual. It's a swing state.

More Americans are sympathetic to what's happening to the Palestinians now than in most of history. So supporting Netanyahu's war is not a reliable way to win over many in our party. Dems know Trump is going to screw them hard but want to stand on principle against what they feel is an unnecessary and brutal punishment.

From the group organizing the 'vote uncommitted" campaign Listen to Michigan.

What is the history of voting uncommitted?

The Michigan Democratic presidential primary is an important venue to demonstrate a large rejection of President Biden’s backing and financing of the Israeli government’s war in Gaza. In 2008, Obama did not make the ballot in the Michigan primaries but his campaign mobilized young and Black voters to vote “uncommitted” as a symbolic (and real) rejection of Hillary Clinton. It embarrassed Clinton.

https://www.listentomichigan.com/faqs

============================================

Listen to Michigan is sponsored by the dark money group Arab Americans for Progress. Listen to Michigan is seriously wrong on the actual facts concerning the Michigan primary in 2008.

Either the organization is irresponsibly spreading misinformation or it's engaged in a disinformation campaign.

Michigan 2008 Presidential Primary

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Michigan_Democratic_presidential_primary

=============================================

And, of course, voting "uncommitted" does set up the possibility of divisive antics by potential "Never Biden" delegates chaos agents at our national convention.

What does an “uncommitted” vote mean for the Presidential Primary?

Each party ballot has a vote position for “uncommitted.” When a voter selects “uncommitted”, this indicates the voter is exercising a vote for that political party, but is not committed to any of the candidates listed on the ballot.

If enough voters cast “uncommitted” votes, the party may send delegates to the national nominating convention who are not committed to a specific candidate.

It's not just her, there are plenty of other liberals that would withhold a vote for Biden because he didn't ban all oil drilling, or try to repeal the 2nd amendment, etc. It's not different that conservatives that withhold a vote because of abortion. They fail to see that the world is filled with shades of grey instead of black and white. AOC was like this at the start but learned quickly.

I think it's very sad for both ends of the political spectrum, you need to understand that there is a greater good and sometimes the greater good doesn't give you what you want most.

"Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good."

Trump is bad for Palestinians and Israel. He's bad for America. He's poison for the entire freaking world with the exception of his dictator pals.

Even if she thinks, "it's only the primary, it can't hurt to ask people to cast a protest vote against Biden for it," to me I see it as someone who doesn't get the bigger picture. We need to stand united behind our candidate, until his re-election is actually accomplished. This is just my opinion, and people can accuse me of over reacting, but I feel the threat to not only our democracy but our lives, if anything is not being taken as seriously by many as it should be.
