Kari Lake calls on Arizona GOP chair to resign after reports of leaked audio

Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake called on the state’s GOP chair Jeff DeWit to resign on Tuesday after a recording surfaced of the chair appearing to offer Lake money in exchange for not running for office. “He’s gotta resign. We can’t have somebody who is corrupt and compromised running the Republican Party,” Lake told an NBC reporter at former President Trump’s New Hampshire primary victory party.

The recording, first reported by The Daily Mail, purports to capture DeWit offering Lake money in exchange for her staying out of politics for two years. The authenticity of the recording could not be verified by The Hill.

“There are very powerful people who want to keep you out,” DeWit reportedly told Lake in the recording, saying only that these figures were from the “east.” “Just say, is there a number at which,” DeWit begins, before being cut off.

“I can be bought? That’s what it’s about,” Lake retorted. “You can take a pause for a couple of years,” DeWit continued. “You can go right back to what you’re doing.” Lake said she would not accept a billion dollars to leave the Senate race. Neither Lake, DeWit nor the Arizona GOP responded to requests for comment.

I listened through most of that phone call. Couldn't listen to any more. But not long into it, you can tell Lake set this up, knowing what might be said, or even just a fishing expedition just in case. Either way...she KNOWs the tape is running, and had it all planned to play the part of "who me? Take money to drop out?....I will NEVER turn my back on the American people!...blah blah blah"

And then release it. To come off as the principled victim, hanging in there so the American people have the candidate they deserve (and actually won)!

No tears for DeWit but she didn't think twice about throwing him under the bus for her own gain. And also for MAGAs gain. They will now replace him with a full throated MAGA Lake supporter.

The more I think about this, it would be a great idea to pay candidates to NOT run, so they couldn't do any more harm to the country. Candidates could run for office like the mob runs a protection racket: "Give me all your dough or something bad will happen to your country!"
