In Proclamation 10467 of October 6, 2022 (Granting Pardon for the Offense of Simple Possession of Marijuana), I exercised my authority under the Constitution to pardon individuals who committed or were convicted of the offense of simple possession of marijuana in violation of the Controlled Substances Act and section 48904.01(d)(1) of the Code of the District of Columbia (D.C. Code). As I have said before, convictions for simple possession of marijuana have imposed needless barriers to employment, housing, and educational opportunities. Through this proclamation, consistent with the grant of Proclamation 10467, I am pardoning additional individuals who may continue to experience the unnecessary collateral consequences of a conviction for simple possession of marijuana, attempted simple possession of marijuana, or use of marijuana. Therefore, acting pursuant to the grant of authority in Article II, Section 2, of the Constitution of the United States, I, Joseph R. Biden Jr., do hereby grant a full, complete, and unconditional pardon to all current United States citizens and lawful permanent residents who, on or before the date of this proclamation, committed or were convicted of the offense of simple possession of marijuana, attempted simple possession of marijuana, or use of marijuana, regardless of whether they have been charged with or prosecuted for these offenses on or before the date of this proclamation...

WASHINGTON (AP) President Joe Biden is pardoning thousands of people who were convicted of use and simple possession of marijuana on federal lands and in the District of Columbia, the White House said Friday, in his latest round of executive clemencies meant to rectify racial disparities in the justice system.
Biden is also granting clemency to 11 people serving what the White House called disproportionately long sentences for nonviolent drug offenses. Biden said his actions would help make the promise of equal justice a reality.
Criminal records for marijuana use and possession have imposed needless barriers to employment, housing, and educational opportunities, Biden said. Too many lives have been upended because of our failed approach to marijuana. Its time that we right these wrongs.
The categorical pardon issued Friday builds on his categorical pardon issued just before the 2022 midterm elections that made thousands convicted of simple possession on federal lands eligible for pardons. The White House said thousands more would be eligible under Fridays action.

(4,444 posts)It's still a Schedule 1 drug. This MUST change.
Until it's changed- it is still a threat to send someone away for years in prison.

(45,666 posts)HHS recommends reclassifying it to Schedule 3. DEA still needs to concur.
I would expect doing that soon would help Biden's reelection chances.

This offense almost kept our residency from happening. Took six months and about $1000 to lawyer through.

(549 posts)thugs that broke into my $25 a month apartment in the student ghetto with guns drawn and leering at my fiance (wearing only underwear) while playing the macho bully thief (so much stuff I never got back) all over a minuscule amount of pot (and a plant named Abigail) are now probably all dead. So they can not apologize. They can not confess to me that the whole bullshit was a cash cow for local PDs.
I wanted an apology.... even after 52 years.
But my thanks go to president Biden
