Biden faces broad negative ratings at start of campaign, Post-ABC poll finds

Bidens overall job approval rating stands at 36 percent, down from 42 percent in February and about the same as the previous low of 37 percent in a Post-ABC poll conducted in early 2022. His disapproval stands at 56 percent, including 47 percent who disapprove strongly. Other recent polls have pegged Bidens approval in the low 40s without a decline in recent months.

Another warning sign for Biden and his team comes in hypothetical ballot tests. Throughout the 2020 campaign, Biden generally led Trump in head-to-head pre-election polls and in November 2020, he won 51 percent of the popular vote to Trumps 47 percent. Today, Biden is running behind the former president on the question of whom voters prefer for 2024.
When asked who they would support in 2024, 44 percent of voting-age adults say they would definitely or probably vote for Trump while 38 percent would definitely or probably vote for Biden. The remaining 18 percent are either undecided or gave another answer.

(36,388 posts)I used the article's link to the WaPo-ABC Poll itself. Only 1,000 surveyed. Seriously?
No poll this far out is anything but media hype.

(27,900 posts)Did I imagine that? Not high as in 75 percent, which is what he deserves, but in the mid to upper 40s. And this was quite recent.

(14,202 posts)I realize that one should be careful of throwing the first stone, and we have our own "freedom convoy" and our "Texas", Alberta. but as a Canadian, I think I can speak for people in most countries, who wonder How can 44% of Americans STILL want Trump as their President?
It has to be the insidious rhizome of far right day time radio and now podcasts and new even more extreme right wing news networks. We have conservative talk radio, and we get a pro-corporate slant on our news, but nothing like the disinformation and conspiracy promotions you get down there. And whats worse, there are no counter balanced opinion shows in many regions. I'm worried how many otherwise level headed Americans, are being brainwashed.
Watching a Packman video interviewing the guy who won the Pillow guy's bet about his data being wrong. He voted for Trump.,....twice! and may again. Even though he seemed like a very smart logical person. And just proved that Pillow guy (and Trump) are wrong and lying. He "didn't trust" Hillary, and "liked" Trumps policies more.
And on the sensitive topic of Biden running, IMO he should have gracefully announced he would step down, and give a new generation...well a little younger at least...a shot this time. As far as I'm concerned he's already a hero for making sure that the biggest threat to the free world was prevented from an immediate second term. I sure hope that legacy won't be replaced by being the guy who through his own hubris and stubbornness, helped usher in a new American Fascist regime.

(17,757 posts)The people want to be entertained by the President, they want a "star," an action/adventure hero and many are willing to accept even an evil action/adventure hero. They want a macho man who is not afraid to purge his enemies or start a nuclear war. (if necessary, of course...)
Regardless of the polls, I still find it difficult to believe that Biden voters from the last election would flip for Trump next time. I will say this, if we allow a person like Trump or DeSantis in the White House, with lost Democratic votes, we will get what we deserve...in spades. Dante could not have envisioned what the future of America would look like.
