At-large Texas mass shooting suspect had been deported 4 times: Source

Francisco Oropesa allegedly killed five people, including a young boy.

Francisco Oropesa, the man on the run after allegedly killing five Texas family members, is a Mexican national who was previously deported four times, a source familiar with the investigation told ABC News.

Oropesa, 38, was deported on March 17, 2009, after an immigration judge ordered his removal, the source said. He unlawfully returned to the U.S., and he was then apprehended and deported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in September 2009, January 2012 and July 2016, the source said.

Oropesa had also been convicted in Montgomery County, Texas, in January 2012 of driving while intoxicated and served time in jail, the source said.

All of the victims are from Honduras, police said.

ABC News' Peter Charalambous, Nadine El-Bawab, Meredith Deliso, Jon Haworth, Nicholas Kerr, Jamie McCarty, Gina Sunseri, Marilyn Heck, Teddy Grant and Michelle Mendez contributed to this report.

An illegal immigrant deported four times who then goes on to kill five people? The odds are high that Texas will give him the needle.

Many Mexicans have a deep resentment of people from Cuba, El Salvador and Honduras. It’s because many from Honduras because some of them have special protection to be here and they can’t get it. I say some because the ones who recently came aren’t eligible. My husband came in 1997 and he has Temporary Protected Status. People from Cuba can get Permanent Residence as long as they can get here.

While police are searching in a 20 mile radius, the suspect is likely in Mexico already. Since he is a Mexican national, Mexico won't extradite him.

since there are 200 officers searching for him for the mass murder.

The immigration issues are a nice distraction from the fact that guns keep everyone safe. An armed society is a polite society.

Just saying, if it's in his name, then Texas was negligent. If it was a family member or friend, that's a starting point for finding him.

There you go again with putting words in people's mouths -- the previous poster never said anything of the sort. You seem to have been trained in the art of putting words into people's mouths and then arguing from that starting point.

Has nothing to do if the federal gov't enforces immigration laws. If Texas negligently allowed a known illegal immigrant who had already been deported to title a residence in his own name, any non-corrupt court would rule against them (the state).

Individual Tax Identification Number. Plus a valid Texas driver's license.

In any competently-managed US state, an illegal immigrant who had been deported many times should not have been able to obtain either of those documents. He also likely would not had produced either of them at time of purchase. If the state issued a house title in his name without him producing those documents at time of application, it wouldn't take much effort to prove state negligence in court. And if he did produce those documents, it would be a piece of cake to prove state negligence (incompetence).

Yes, there is demand everywhere. My post got off the point kind of. Abbot’s comments about illegals just offends me. Rather than blaming the victims or President Biden, why doesn’t he go after the people who take advantage of these folks by employing them under the table. The guy had to be making good money to afford guns and ammo to waste on a regular basis. Texas gun laws made it easy for him to buy a weapon of war. Some unscrupulous employer was probably paying this guy decent money. Why doesn’t Abbot go after the parts of the equation that he controls? It sounds as if the five victims may be undocumented. They were probably being paid under the table, but just living their lives, unlike this guy who had been deported 4 times. If laws were rigorously enforced on the employers, then we, as a country could acknowledge our need for labor and I’d bet our immigration system would reform quickly to cater to the business community. Then a family who has a neighbor who shoots guns all of the time would feel comfortable going to the police and the guy who should be here would be exposed quickly. As it is, those shady employers are the only ones who benefit from the current paradigm. Something tells me those guys vote for Abbot. That’s my unscientific two bits.

We need to prosecute the people who hire these people. They take advantage of their labor and drive down wages. Until we do this, we let the Republicans ignore that fact that we need this labor force. People who come here to work should be welcomed with open arms. We need to distroy the underground labor market. Prosecute the employers not the people who just want to improve their lives. If we can bring people out of the shadows they will not hesitate calling the police ona neighbor who is firing guns indiscriminately. The shadow economy allows people who we don’t want in our country to hide with the people we so.
