New law allows anti-abortion monument at Arkansas Capitol

Source: AP

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders has signed a new law that will allow a monument near the state Capitol marking the number of abortions performed in Arkansas before the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade.

Sanders’ office said Friday night that the Republican governor signed the bill that will allow the creation of a privately funded “monument to the unborn” on the Capitol grounds. The bill, approved by lawmakers last week, requires the secretary of state to permit and arrange the placement of the monument.

It also requires the Capitol Arts and Grounds Commission to oversee the selection of the artist and the design of the monument, with input from anti-abortion groups.

A law Arkansas approved in 2019 banning nearly all abortions took effect last year when the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the 1973 Roe decision. Arkansas’ ban only allows abortions to save the life of the mother in a medical emergency.

... and inscribe the names of all women who died because they couldn't get an abortion.

The wall will need to be easily enlarged until Roe v Wade is again the national law.

With a nod to Maya Lin for a simple and powerful design.

A monument celebrating fascist authoritarianism; a monument to more government, bigger government at the expense to individual liberty.

A monument to the hypocrisy of conservatives.

I watched her string of inane legislation. The folks In Arkansas who voted for her ought to be ashamed of themselves. She has nothing better to do but pass silly legislation. In four years voters better think hard if SHS made their lives better. I want to be optimistic.

My fear is SHS will be emboldened to run for POTUS.

One wonders if a Democrat should get up in every state legislature and in the House and Senate and demand that authorities indict God for all the abortions he has caused from miscarriages to failure to implant.

Hard to imagine her getting very far. Among other things, she has about as much charisma as a sink full of used dishwater.

Stranger things have happened, for sure, but I don't think the Huckabee name will carry her as far as she might think.

When Arkansas finally elects a Democratic governor and legislature again, they will have a huge chuck of copper they can melt down, and turn a profit on the increase of the metal price.

It won’t be soon, but don’t forget that they once had a governor named Bill Clinton.
