China accuses Washington of wanting 'technological hegemony'
Source: AP
20 minutes ago BEIJING (AP) — China’s government accused Washington on Tuesday of pursuing “technology hegemony” following news reports the United States might step up pressure on tech giant Huawei by blocking all access to American suppliers. The possible move, reported by Bloomberg News, The Financial Times and The Wall Street Journal, would tighten restrictions imposed in 2019 that limit Huawei’s access to processor chips and other technology. The company, which makes network equipment and smartphones, was allowed to buy some less-advanced components. Huawei Technologies Ltd., China’s first global tech brand, is at the center of conflict between Washington and Beijing over technology and security. U.S. officials say Huawei is a security risk and might facilitate Chinese spying, an accusation the company denies. “China is gravely concerned about the reports,” said a foreign ministry spokeswoman, Mao Ning. She accused Washington of “over-stretching the concept of national security and abusing state power” to suppress Chinese competitors. ![]() Read more: https://apnews.com/article/technology-united-states-government-huawei-technologies-co-ltd-district-of-columbia-business-ab63a8f31847f23b691fa705f8a4a8e2

3. We must pull out of China as much as possible regarding tech & drugs.
ANYTHING tied to national security or infrastructure should NOT be vulnerable to China's whims. Sure, make your damn toys there but anything important need to either be made HERE or in a friendly country.

6. Nope. The democracies of the world would welcome
a vibrant, fair trading China instead of the Stalinist policies of Xi. Threatening the island of Taiwan, supporting the hereditary mad monarchs of North Korea, massive technological espionage, cozying up to Vlad the invader makes the democracies rightfully suspicious about furthering a friendly relationship.
China with its immense population steeped in culture before western time will never not be a major player in the world. Xi has chosen to make the relationship with the west rocky and perilous for the democracies. |

9. China has long been pursuing "technological hegemony," and is pissed off that the US has taken
concrete steps to prevent that. The main issue, I believe, is that all companies in China are required by law to share data with the government. China is the ultimate Big Brother as envisioned by Orwell.

Geo-political competition ain't bean bag (although one does wish it were kinder and gentler).
