Justice Dept. Is Said to Believe Trump Has More Documents
Source: New York Times
Conversations between department officials and the former presidents representatives have underscored investigators skepticism about his cooperation and exposed a rift among his lawyers.
A top Justice Department official told former President Donald J. Trumps lawyers in recent weeks that the department believed he had not returned all the documents he took when he left the White House, according to two people briefed on the matter.
The outreach from the official, Jay I. Bratt, who leads the departments counterintelligence operations, is the most concrete indication yet that investigators remain skeptical that Mr. Trump has been fully cooperative in their efforts to recover documents the former president was supposed to have turned over to the National Archives at the end of his term.
It is not clear what steps the Justice Department might take to retrieve any material it thinks Mr. Trump still holds.

(63,208 posts)A few years back police raided the house of a a guy up the street from me, finding a stolen gun, a small quantity of drugs, and a few thousand dollars.
He was denied bail as a flight risk and was jailed pending trial.
A large quantity of stolen classified materials are found in the raid of MaL, exactly as expected, yet Trump walks free, doing his best to taint any jury pools nationwide while rallying his KKKult of fuckheads into a murderous frenzy.
But I know, I know. The System is working.

Let's see Trump swear under oath that all have been returned.

(10,163 posts)The staffers are fainthearted and skittish. From the link posted.
"The problem with the DOJ staffing on the MAL case (at least what is visible) is the lead attorney is trained to think of DOJs role as negotiating compliance with the law after the person is discovered to be in violation vs indicting the person to promote compliance with the law," he wrote."
Yeah, just what you need. A fearful staff who thinks national security and theft of government property is negotiable. And still there are more classified documents not returned because no one checked all his other homes and stash locations.
